The Castle of Muskogee, Oklahoma’s 37,000-square-foot fireworks showroom keeps ­working to improve everyone’s enjoyment on the Fourth. Although the Castle of Muskogee has always guaranteed all fireworks to light, the new, higher quality means no ­disappointments on the Fourth.

    “A new ‘look’ in fireworks for 2012 is the ‘jellyfish’ effect, which is inspired by the Time Bandit – Deadliest Catch show,” says Matt Hiller, vice president of the Castle. “Basically, the ­aerial displays feature jiggly ‘tentacles’ tracing sparks across the sky – it’s a spectacular display!”

    For better safety, the Castle joined the American Fireworks Standards Laboratory several years ago. AFSL is an ­independent testing organization that inspects fireworks before they leave China to assure safety. All fireworks, of course, must also pass inspection by the Consumer Product Safety Commission once they get to the United States. The new ­inspections procedures have resulted in a dramatic decrease in fireworks-related incidents in the U.S., even though fireworks imports have increased by many tons!

    The quantity and selection this year at the Castle must be seen to be believed: imagine a football field covered with fireworks as high as you can reach all under one roof, and you’ll get an idea of what awaits you in Muskogee. The Castle, of course, is air conditioned, with ­accessible restrooms and plenty of paved parking at the door.     

    The annual fireworks sale lasts from June 15 through July 6. Hours are: June 15–30, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; July 1–4, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and July 5-6, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
