Jitney

Anyone who has witnessed 'brothers' telling tales in the neighborhood barbershop or at the local Mickey D's will be familiar with the shared camaraderie, ego, fear and ambition that come to the fore in a small jitney (gypsy-cab) station in 1970s Pittsburgh as depicted in August Wilson's very funny, as well as, very touching play "Jitney." *Recommended for a mature audiences due to strong language. Tickets go on sale December 15 at 10:30 a.m.

To honor and memorialize this gem of Tulsa history, a group of Spotlight patrons joined with donors from the community, architecture buffs, and the family of Patti Shriner to create this monument. The Tulsa Spotlight Theatre Historical Monument is a black granite slab sourced from Sri Lanka. The monument literally "sets in stone" the significance and history of the Spotlight Theatre. The monument is etched with text and historical photos telling the story of original owner Patti Shriner and building architect Bruce Goff. It features Spotlight co-founder Richard Mansfield Dickinson, Tulsa Spotlighters, and a number of principal actors and performers who have graced the stage of the Spotlight Theatre over the decades.

Ten Tenors

Queensferry Renaissance Festival

Cherokee Ethnobiology

Free to the public. Sponsored by Master Gardeners Association of Rogers County and OSU Ext. Rogers County Feather Smith has been with the Cherokee Nation since 2007. She worked as a tour guide in the Diligwa Village at the Cherokee Heritage Center until 2015. She then served as a cultural biologist before becoming the current Ethnobiology Manager with the Secretary of Natural Resources Office. As the Ethnobiology Manager, she oversees the Cherokee Nation Seed Bank and helps care for the Cherokee Nation Heirloom Garden and Native Plant site. Feather has a Bachelor of Science in fish and wildlife biology from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. The PowerPoint presentation is titled Cherokee Ethnobiology which is the study of how Cherokee people interact wtih their environment. The first half of the presentation focuses on Cherokee Heirloom crops and the Cherokee Nation seed bank. The second half focuses on cultural forestry and highlights many of the native plants that are important for cultural and medicinal purposes.

Duck-tape Craft Workshop

MONDAY, APRIL 4, 2022 AT 4 PM – 5:45 PM 1223 W Main St, Collinsville, OK 74021 Braden Robbins is putting on a duct tape workshop learning how to make a reusable grocery bag using a feed sack (or any other type of cool sacks you want to use) and duct tape. They will also show how to make a wallet using duct tape. This workshop will be in the downstairs meeting room at the Collinsville public library For this workshop you will need to bring • Sack of your choosing (think feed sack from any livestock, pet or even extra large chip bag) these sacks are best if they are plastic - paper will not hold up well. • My favorite color is duck tape. There will be some tape on hand as well as a few sacks. Cutting boards and scissors.

The Oddities & Curiosities Expo

One part horror convention and one part dark arts - The Oddities and Curiosities Expo featuring over 150 local and national vendors and will visit Tulsa Expo Square in Tulsa, OK, on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Attendees can expect to see vendors and small businesses showcasing taxidermy, preserved animal specimens, original horror and Halloween-inspired artwork, antiques, handcrafted oddities, quack medical devices, creepy clothing, odd jewelry, skulls, bones, and funeral collectibles. "The Oddities and Curiosities Expo was created purely out of the excitement of bringing communities we care about together through events,” said Michelle Cozzaglio, who owns the expo with her husband, Tony. “Honestly, we had no idea it would turn into what it has today! Overlap Camp

May 27-31, 2022

Overlap camp is May 27-31 at Camp Egan! Our theme this year is "Unfinished." Living life as a Christian is like building a house. It’s a process full of steps and challenges. At each point of construction, there is a goal for that specific point that then fits into the larger concept of the house. This is also true for us as Christians. We are all an ongoing construction project and all of us are “Unfinished.” We may be at a different point of our construction process than those around us and that is okay! Through this camp, we want students to be able to find where they are in the process of following Jesus, as well as look to where they are going. Some may need to hear that they need to do a little demolition in some areas of their life to build a stronger more personal relationship with God. We also want them to know that unfinished does not mean stagnant. Our relationship with God should be ever-growing and ever-evolving. Wherever they are in their spiritual development, we want students to know that they are valuable and their relationship with God is worth the time and labor. Camp is $250 if you sign up by May 1 and is $300 up to May 16.

A vibrant grand parade opens the annual Red Earth Parade & FallFest Powwow in downtown Oklahoma City. Witness representatives of more than 100 Native American tribes in full tribal regalia make this parade one of the nation's most colorful, unique events. The Red Earth Parade & FallFest Powwow will be held in conjunction with Oklahoma City's Indigenous People's Day celebrations. Parade participants include Tribal leaders and princesses, dancers, musical groups, marching bands, school groups, drum groups, mounted entries and more. Celebration of Native American Art and Culture

Our Celebration of Native American Art and Culture will feature the traditional and contemporary works of Oklahoma Native Americans of all tribes. Featured mediums include drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, photography, sculpture, basket weaving, and jewelry. Our show will be held in conjunction with the upcoming First Annual Broken Arrow Intertribal Veterans Pow Wow that will take place August 5th-7th, 2022 at the Broken Arrow Events Park. This will be a three day Pow Wow to honor our veterans, benefit both Mission 22 and BAIVA and to bring the community together in fellowship. This show will be celebrated with an opening reception on Thursday, August 4th from 5:30pm to 8pm. This reception and gallery exhibit will be free and open to the public.

Creations in Studio K presented by Tulsa Ballet

Our Creations in Studio K program is known for commissioning incredible new works from the most in-demand choreographers in the world. This season features Australian-born choreographer Craig Davidson who was originally scheduled to create a premiere on Tulsa Ballet in September 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic. Davidson’s International Choreographic Contest prize-winning pieces have been described as, “a breath of fresh air” and “explosive.” Nicolo Fonte, currently the Resident Choreographer for Ballet West, will be returning to Tulsa to create a World Premiere piece as well. Known for his unique choreography and highly developed fusion of ideas, dance and design, Fonte is no stranger to Tulsa Ballet with World Premiere pieces created here such as Axis Mundi(2012) and Love-Notes (2016). Ma Cong’s Melodia, performed by TBII, Tulsa Ballet’s second company, will return to the Studio K stage, juxtaposing the accomplishment of Tulsa ballet’s main company with the promise and talent of TBII.

Carmen presented by Tulsa Ballet

The story of Carmen will leave you breathless. Based on Bizet’s much-loved opera, the ballet tells the tale of the sultry Carmen and her seduction of the soldier Don José, whom she eventually betrays in the arms of the handsome toreador Escamillo. Choreographed by British choreographer, director, producer and Northern Ballet’s Resident Choreographer Kenneth Tindall, who in 2021 received a double nomination by the British Critics Circle for their National Dance Award, this world Premiere filled with passion, drama, love, and tragedy is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!

First Friday Art Crawl

Since 2007, the Tulsa Arts District has presented the community with rotating art displays as part of the monthly First Friday Art Crawl events. Every first Friday of the month, visitors can explore artwork inside galleries, studios and museums and catch a few live music performances or even an exciting fireworks display. As an added bonus, art crawlers can take advantage of free museum and gallery admission while shopping later than normal business hours would allow. Hit the district early for dinner, or stay a little later for a craft cocktail best enjoyed on an outdoor patio.
