Rhema Christmas Lights Extravaganza is a brilliant display of dazzling lights that began with about 60,000 lights in 1982. Now in its 40th year, nearly three million lights adorn the 110-acre campus. The glittery lights will begin shining at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 24 (Thanksgiving Eve) and continue through January 2, from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. (rain, snow, or shine). The display typically draws around 500,000 visitors from Oklahoma and surrounding states. Admission is free. Back again is the "Christmas tree forest," a 50-figure nativity scene, 3D angels and reindeer, and a gingerbread family, complete with lollipops and gumdrops. And as always, the vibrant Rhema Park bridge acts as a remarkable centerpiece for the entire display. Rhema's Christmas lights display was designed to provide a safe, peaceful, and fun atmosphere in which people can enjoy the Christmas season. We want to bless our community and point visitors to Jesus Christ—the Light of the World—and the real meaning of Christmas.

In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Arbor Day, students from Oakcrest Elementary, members of the City Council, and the BA Parks & Recreation Department will plant trees at Arrowhead Park, 300 E. Washington St. on March 22, beginning at 10 a.m. The City Council proclaimed March 21-25 as “Arbor Week” as part of maintaining Broken Arrow's Tree City USA status for the 22nd year. Broken Arrow is encouraging residents to support the effort to protect our trees and woodlands. Trees and shrubs can reduce noise levels by 50 percent as perceived by the human ear according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Trees properly placed around buildings can reduce air conditioning needs by 30 percent and can save 20-50 percent in energy used for heating according to the USDA Forest Service. One acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and emits four tons of oxygen, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Residents who would like to leave a legacy beyond Arbor Week can participate in the City's Commemorative Tree Program. It's a way for family, friends, companies, churches, and civic organizations to donate trees for planting in one of the City's parks. Donors request the park and type of tree, such as shade, flowering, or evergreen. The City's Parks Division will plant and maintain the tree for three years. A donor's plaque will be next to the tree, and location information will be given to the donor. A commemorative tree donation is $225, with other trees ordered simultaneously available for $200 each. Go to baparks.org and click on the Commemorative Tree link for more information. Arbor Day began in Nebraska in 1872, with the planting of more than one million trees in that state. It's now observed throughout the nation and the world. The City Council's proclamation said trees are valuable to the world because of their place in nature, and specifically important in Broken Arrow because "they increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community."

Pumpkin Festival at Shepherd’s Cross September 20 – November 5, 2022 Tuesday – Saturday 9:00 am - 6:30 pm Open Monday, October 31st Shepherd’s Cross has been hosting a fall event for three decades and once again returns with fun for the whole family. Shepherd’s Cross Pumpkin Festival is a harvest celebration held at an authentic working farm, just north of Claremore Oklahoma on Scenic Route 66. Come to the farm and enjoy the peace of a few hours spent in the country. Enjoy wholesome fun for the entire family including over 50 activities, a hay maze, festive outdoor & indoor games, farm animal petting barn, farm demonstrations and fall story time. The farm’s focus is educational, mingled with fall festive fun. We will supply truckloads of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes for purchase, as well as straw bales & cornstalks for your fall decorating. There is a wide range of pumpkin prices, starting at $1.50 each. Come see our walk-through Pumpkin Patch, Game Area, and Hay Maze. Pumpkins are sanitized daily, and games are sanitized throughout the day. Suggested donation is $5 per person (suggested – not required). Pumpkin Patch Packages are available for $9, $12 & $15. They include a Pumpkin, Wagon Ride and take home fall craft. Size of pumpkin varies with package price and are available while supplies last. Wagon Rides in the hay meadow are $6.50 per person; children two and under are free. They “load up and head out” approximately every 30 minutes. Wagon ride is sanitized throughout the day. Farm Museum & Educational Farm Silo is open – free admission. The Bible Garden is available for self-guided tours where you can see pumpkins growing on the vines, and take a picture with the flowers. Shepherd’s Shop, a quaint country gift shop, features a host of festive fall, handmade wool and farm related gifts and wares from many gifted artisans. The shop is open year-round and carries snacks & beverages. Also offered are healthy food choices as well as grass fed, grass finished meats. There are modern indoor restrooms. This event is made possible by Heart of the Shepherd Inc., a public, non-profit Christian organization (501-C3) that teaches Biblical references to the harvest, the animals, farming, and gardening. Because of their generosity, the admission is free and operates by donations. Shepherd’s Cross is an accredited Agritourism facility, a Made in Oklahoma Company, and a Grass Fed Grass Finished, Animal Welfare Certified Farm. These will be offered every hour.
