Tulsans seeking a better understanding of the current Ukrainian-Russian conflict, particularly from a historical context, will have the opportunity to hear from an international expert on Eastern European, Russian and Ukrainian history. This presentation is free and open to the public. About the speaker Dr. Remy has published widely on the history of Ukraine. His book Brothers of Enemies: The Ukrainian National Movement and Russia from the 1840s to the 1870s (2016) has won two book awards. In 2015 he published a history of Ukraine in Finnish that is now already in its second printing.

“The Art of Cinematic Lighting” is a two-day workshop that introduces students to the basics of lighting a scene for a traditional narrative film production. Students will learn how to use gear found on professional sets, including a variety of lights, stands, and light modifiers as well as basic techniques used to achieve looks frequently utilized during the course of a film production. This 3-week workshop will be via Zoom on April 26th and in person on the OSU-Tulsa campus with a Zoom option on May 3rd and May 10th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. In this class, we'll explore local subjects (Oklahoma, broadly and Tulsa, more particularly) that can serve as inspirations for lively history writing. Students will learn basic historical methodologies through fun activities, while also focusing on the craft of writing and editing. At the end of the workshop, students will have produced either: A). A 10-15 page popular history article ready for submission to a literary magazine or B). A half-hour script for a history-themed podcast. Students do not need any background in history or journalism. We welcome genealogists, memoir writers, community activists, and truth-seekers of all persuasions. The only requirement is curiosity about Oklahoma themes and issues. FREE Senior Resource & Health Fair BROKEN ARROW, OK (April 24, 2023) The 31st Annual Senior Resource & Health Fair is a free event presented and hosted by the Broken Arrow Senior Center to benefit those 55+, and their families, in Broken Arrow and surrounding areas. The Resource & Health Fair is set for Friday, April 28, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Central Park Community Center, 1500 South Main, Broken Arrow. “This annual event is the only event in Broken Arrow designed to help people 55 & older, and their families, discover resources available to them", says Kim Crenshaw, BA Senior Center Executive Director. “Whether seniors are interested in health care options, aging in place, local leisure choices, city resources, Medicare supplements, healthy aging, or independent living options, they come to discover the answers to all their questions during this event attended by 1,000 +.” Over 100 informational booths will be onsite in addition to free basic health screenings.

The Trash Bash is Broken Arrow's litter cleanup day in which groups of people volunteer to beautify their neighborhoods by picking up trash and debris from our roads and waterways. The biannual Recycling Rally is a recycling drop-off event for hard-to-recycle items like electronics, sharps, batteries, tires (limit of 10), and more! To volunteer as an individual or group for the Trash Bash litter cleanup: Click Here You do not need to sign up or volunteer to clean up litter to participate in the drive-through Recycling Rally. This 3-week workshop will be via Zoom on April 26th and in person on the OSU-Tulsa campus with a Zoom option on May 3rd and May 10th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. In this class, we'll explore local subjects (Oklahoma, broadly and Tulsa, more particularly) that can serve as inspirations for lively history writing. Students will learn basic historical methodologies through fun activities, while also focusing on the craft of writing and editing. At the end of the workshop, students will have produced either: A). A 10-15 page popular history article ready for submission to a literary magazine or B). A half-hour script for a history-themed podcast. Students do not need any background in history or journalism. We welcome genealogists, memoir writers, community activists, and truth-seekers of all persuasions. The only requirement is curiosity about Oklahoma themes and issues. Registraiton will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24th.

TCC Children’s Summer Theatre Presents Auditions for The SpongeBob Musical Auditions for the Tulsa Community College’s Children’s Summer Theatre production of The SpongeBob Musical will be held on June 10 and 11th from 1-4pm and callbacks and new auditioners on June 17th from 1-4pm at the Pace Studio Theatre at TCC Southeast Campus. Auditioners can arrive anytime between 1-4pm on any day. Casting ages 6-17 years of age. Everyone must sing and dance. Audition requirements – 16-32 bars of a Disney song preferably with piano sheet music in a binder– an accompanist will be provided. No acapella. Actors will also be asked to read from the script. The Claremore Police Department, Volunteers for Youth and the Healthy Community Partnership are hosting the “Back to School Bash at National Night Out” on Tuesday, August 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Claremore Lake Park. Local organizations listed below will give away free school supplies and family resource information. There will be several family-friendly activities including live music, fun, and play features for the children. Free pizza, drinks, and sno-cones will be available. Claremore Police Officers will be on-hand to answer any questions and to interact with anyone interested in promoting safety and security within our community. During the daytime hours (8 am to noon & 1 – 6 pm) on the same day free school immunizations will be provided at the Rogers County Health Department. Attendees will park at the rodeo grounds and the parking lot adjacent to the splash pad will be reserved for handicap parking. Live music will be provided by The Roy Weathers Band with the ROSCO Fun Center band playing prior to the main performance. Witness seasoned craftsmen transform wood, ceramics and other materials into works of art at the annual Woodcarving & Folk Arts Festival in Broken Arrow. For over 30 years, this event has celebrated the art of folk crafts and traditional carving practices, featuring woodcarvers, woodturners, woodworkers, wood burners, scroll sawyers and more from across multiple states. Other art forms represented include stained glass, mosaics, letterpress printing and much more. Artists of all levels can partake in seminars for beginners ages 13 and over each afternoon, or attend demonstrations and displays of various wood art forms. The Tulsa Reining Classic is an action-packed display of equestrian skills at Tulsa Expo Square. Watch for buffalo, elk, deer or longhorn cattle on this trail ride that covers approximately 15 miles of scenic terrain on the famous Woolaroc Ranch. Bring your own horse and join the group for a day-long ride over 3,700 acres of ranch land. Hidden away amongst the beauty of the rolling Osage Hills, the country retreat of oilman Frank Phillips will open its gates to riders looking to explore native terrain that is rarely seen by the general public.The Woolaroc Fall Trail Ride includes overnight primitive camping on Friday prior to the ride, a morning and afternoon guided trail ride and admission to Woolaroc. The trail ride fee also includes lunch and dinner on Saturday. Riders must provide their own horses and gear. While not on the trail, participants can enjoy all that Woolaroc has to offer, including the on-site lodge and museum featuring a premier Western art collection, one of the world's finest collections of Colt firearms and an extensive collection of Navajo blankets. Registration for the Woolaroc Fall Trail Ride will begin on Friday, with current Coggins papers required upon arrival. Arrival and check-in time on Saturday is scheduled between 7am and 9am, while the trail ride will begin promptly at 9:30am. Total time in the saddle will be approximately five hours. All participants are encouraged to bring a camera, weather-appropriate clothing, a water canteen, rain poncho, sunscreen and insect repellent. Lunch will typically consist of a barbecue buffalo sandwich, a bag of chips and a cookie. Dinner typically consists of smoked meats, potato salad, baked beans and dessert. Lunches for non-riders are available by reservation only. Camping will be available Saturday night with additional charge. Pre-registration for the Woolaroc Fall Trail Ride is requested.

This October, head to the historic Greenwood District in Tulsa for the Million Man March Motorcycle Rally & Bike Show. Celebrating the first Million Man March that took place in 1995 which promoted African-American unity and family values, this event will be full of educational and engaging activities. It all gets started on Friday with a meet and greet featuring Black leaders including former director of the NAACP, Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. Later, join the fun at the official kick-off featuring live entertainment from DJ Phatkat. On Saturday, the Black Towns Bike tour will guide you through important areas of Oklahoma's history before having more fun at the event's street party. It all concludes on Sunday with the Community Peace Rally and Bike shower, where they'll see incredible and unique vehicles. These monthly walking tours will give you an insightful look into the exciting architecture and prestigious collections that you may pass by every day. Sites include various Art Deco buildings, Will Rogers High School, the Tulsa Underground, University of Tulsa and The Blue Dome District. This month's tour will focus on several historic buildings in Tulsa that are tied to local ghost stories.

Writing Unforgettable Characters | 4-week workshop Starts October 11 from 7-9 p.m. and meets weekly through November 1 Registration required at https://bit.ly/3qMpCHi In this workshop we’ll practice techniques from the world of improv, sketch writing, and acting that are helpful for writing unique characters into scripts and sketches, or for use in such stage formats as a one-person show, stand-up, drag, impressions, etc. There will be a focus on persona and POV. You’ll end our time together having received feedback on at least one character that will bring something special to your project, leaving readers and audiences eager to read and see more. About the instructor Tvli Jacob, a member of the Choctaw Nation, is a filmmaker, comic book writer, and researcher, serving as Clinical Assistant Professor at OSU Center for Health Sciences. Having worked with tribes throughout the United States and Canada, Dr. Jacob has used media content through community-based participatory research media methods. He has collaborated on several creative projects, including film shorts (American Indian Graffiti: This Thing Life, Ronnie BoDean) and the graphic novel Rez Detectives. Registration will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 6. A limited number of scholarships are occasionally available for those with financial need.
