Think you don’t need to see an eye doctor because your vision is perfectly fine? Think again. Eye exams aren’t only for people with poor vision. They’re an important way of detecting eye problems before you have symptoms. Eye doctors can also catch other health problems early – an eye exam can detect diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma and macular degeneration, among numerous other health conditions. If it’s been a few years since your last appointment, or if you’ve never had one, it’s time to schedule a visit to Primary Eye Care.
Dr. Len Hart cares about his patients’ vision and their health. He has owned and operated Primary Eye Care in Collinsville for 34 years, maintaining many of his patients for decades. Since opening his practice, he has been in the same location at 1103 W. Center St., across the street from the post office. He is Collinsville’s “hometown eye doctor.”
Office manager Shelley Hayes says his patients are often pleasantly surprised by how much Dr. Hart actually cares about them. “He gets to know his patients and genuinely cares about their vision, their eyes, and most importantly, their health. I have brought my whole family in for eye exams, including my dad when he was having health problems related to his eyes. I don’t have to trust and like Dr. Hart simply because he’s my employer, but I absolutely do trust and like him. He’s a wonderful eye doctor and a great person.”
Primary Eye Care offers a full range of optometric services, including a full dispensary, extensive and thorough eye exams, and a huge variety of contact lenses and frame options. Frame lines range from bargain friendly to high end and include Michael Kors, Ray Ban, Vera Bradley, Harley Davidson, Kenneth Cole, Converse, Fat Heads, and Wiley X.
The practice maintains the most up-to-date technology, and Dr. Hart and his staff continually further their education through training, seminars and obtaining new certifications. Dr. Hart also works closely with ophthalmologists when patients need referrals for cataract, Lasik and other surgeries. All pre- and post- operative appointments are performed by Dr. Hart.
Primary Eye Care is a friendly, positive, family atmosphere where the staff is always smiling and laughing. Dr. Hart encourages all ages, from young children on up, to visit him for an annual eye exam. “Vision is something we take for granted until we no longer have it. So many people put off or ignore eye care, but it is so important to take care of your eyes. They are the windows through your body, and eye exams can save your life by detecting a number of serious health problems.”
Dr. Hart is Oklahoma born and bred and was raised in Woodward. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and then the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, where he obtained his Doctorate of Optometry degree in 1980. While at SCO, Dr. Hart made humanitarian eye care trips to Costa Rica and Haiti. He holds licenses in Oklahoma and Texas, and is one of the first optometrists to receive laser certification. In 2011, he passed the certification examination to become one of the first 270 optometrists in the nation to become Board Certified and a Diplomate in the American Board of Optometry.
Community involvement is paramount to Dr. Hart. Each year, the practice participates in Hogs ’N Hot Rods, happening this year on June 11. Dr. Hart has been the Chamber of Commerce President in addition to holding numerous other positions in the community. Dr. Hart and his wife, Pam, have two children, Ryan and Valerie.
Appointments are available at Primary Eye Care 8:30 to 5:30 Monday through Wednesday and on Friday, and 8:30 to 4:30 on Thursday. They accept most insurances including Soonercare.
