Dr. Abby Overstreet uses the latest technology in a room that feels like home, which she has personally decorated.
Advanced technology has added some great benefits to our society, but in many cases it has also created a highly impersonal atmosphere. Cell phones, texting, email and various other technological advances have revved up the pace within our relationships, both business and personal. But somehow, even though we’ve become more connected to those around us, we sometimes feel more disconnected because we are rushed through important conversations, situations and decisions.
Dr. Abby Overstreet of Advanced Vision Center & Eyewear Boutique opened her business in Claremore five years ago with the express purpose of combining the latest, most advanced technology in eye care – including an on-site lab and retinal photography – with one-on-one, personalized and friendly service. It is a delicate balancing act, but it is one she strives to perform perfectly. “I have a lot of technology – and I use it,” she notes. “But I take the time to explain things thoroughly and in regular terms. People appreciate that.”
Dr. Overstreet wants each patient’s positive experience to begin even before he or she enters the examining room. When patients enter the door, not only will they be greeted by Dr. Overstreet’s helpful and friendly staff, but their senses will be delighted both by the wide selection of frames on display and by the way in which the selection is presented.
Dr. Overstreet has taken special care to make shopping for frames at Advanced Eye Care an experience as unique as Dr. Overstreet herself, who has personally hand-painted and decorated tables across a room filled with quality, name-brand eye wear including Oakley, Maui Jim, Revo, Nike, Rayban, Coach, Dior, Burberry and Harley. Dr. Overstreet’s travels introduce her to fun finds like Caviar eyewear, which she found in Las Vegas, or trendy jewelry items for the office boutique. Frames come in a wide range of price selections, from low-price package deals to higher end frames: “From basic to bling,” Dr. Overstreet says with a smile.
When a staff member, like Senior Insurance Advisor and Accounting Specialist Heather Williams, helps clients choose frames, she encourages them to consider their hobbies and needs. “If you golf or fish, you might need polarized lenses. But if you don’t do those things or need those type of lenses, we don’t push and cause you to spend needlessly,” says Heather. “Times are too hard to spend money on things we don’t need.”
Dr. Abigail Overstreet was born and raised in Muskogee, attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, and obtained her undergraduate degree at Oklahoma State University. She then attended one of the few private schools of optometry in the nation, Nova Southeastern University in Florida, where she obtained a second bachelor of science degree in vision science and completed her doctorate in optometry in 2006. The same year, she received the prestigious Cooper Vision Contact Association Excellence Award. As soon as her education was complete, there was no question in Dr. Overstreet’s mind that she wanted to return home and practice in Oklahoma. She chose Claremore for its small-town-within-a-bigger-town atmosphere. “Being here helps fulfill my dream of opening a practice with a huge selection of eyewear so people don’t have to go all the way to Tulsa – sort of a one stop shop,” she relates. “Claremore is quaint and quiet and yet is growing. I love the people here.”
