The Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club annual picnic will take place at Claremore’s Will Rogers Stampede Park Saturday, May 17, 2025. Gates open at 9 a.m. The main event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The family-friendly event, which is open to the public, has previously been at the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch near Oologah Lake. Due to ongoing renovations, the event will be at the Will Rogers Stampede Park, on east Blue Starr near Claremore Lake this year.
The Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club invites you to come celebrate tradition and unity in our community. The event celebrates Cherokee heritage, with a goal to bring people from all walks of life together for a relaxing, informative, and entertaining afternoon.
Current members of the Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club are pleased to invite the original founding families and the community at large to gather at the Will Rogers Stampede Park.
True to tradition, the picnic will feature an array of beloved Cherokee foods, such as a traditional hog fry and fresh strawberry shortcake, along with showcasing Cherokee games and live music, for a gathering of family and friends.
The Pocahontas Club was founded in 1899, in Oowala, Indian Territory, Cooweescoowee District, of what is now known as the Cherokee Nation Reservation. Community picnics were the social gatherings of that era.
The Pocahontas Club continues to honor these traditions. As “caretakers of our culture, our heritage, and our communities” for the past 126 years, they bring together scattered friends and families for a good old-fashioned picnic.
Admission is Free and Open to the public. Gates open at 9:00 a.m.
