According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 11% from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. The aging population and ongoing research linking oral health and general health will continue to increase the demand for preventive dental services.

Dental Careers of Tulsa’s Cathy Gebetsberger, Dr. Andrew Carletti, Karen Summers and Norma Tyler will help you during your important career journey and a better life.
“We offer students an opportunity for a new career in a professional field, with many career path options,” said Program Administrator Norma Tyler. “We train our students, both men and women, to be the best dental assistant they can be and to care about every patient in every situation they encounter.”
Coursework, there consistently produces quality dental employees. Courses are offered in early spring, summer and fall. You can choose from two different class times. The commitment and hours are the same whether you take classes two times a week for 14 weeks or Saturday courses for 10 weeks.
Class sizes are purposely small at about eight students per class. Each student receives personalized attention during their training while many continue to work at their current jobs.
You will have hands-on training, which includes a general introduction to dentistry, X-ray training, infection control, anatomy, instruments and equipment of dentistry, oral surgery and office management. “Our students complete a 40-hour internship in an actual dental office,” said Norma.
Norma explained that dental assisting is more than setting up a tray; it involves assisting the dentist in providing the best patient care possible. Students will gain actual experience while interacting with doctors and staff during the course, as well as build new connections and an understanding of what will be expected in the field.
“We strive to support you in your educational journey before, during and after graduation. Names of dentists who indicate they are seeking qualified dental assistants and office personnel are given to those enrolled in the program. Some are offered jobs pending graduation.”
“Our graduates have been successful in their fields upon completing training,” said Cathy Gebetsberger, manager. “Several have continued their education to become dental hygienists, and a few have become dentists!”
What is your next step? Call Norma to schedule one-on-one time or a phone career planning session. She will give you detailed program information and discuss financial aid if needed.
