Millions of people are affected every day by headaches and chronic pain, according to Dr. Terry Bennett, D.M.D. of the Tulsa TMJ Orofacial Pain & Sleep Disorders Clinic. “Many people just suffer and try to do the best they can, but suffering day in and day out is no way to live,” says Dr. Bennett.

After practicing general dentistry for 13 years, Dr. Bennett became interested in treating TMJ/TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder) after helping two patients suffering from chronic migraines. Doctors and neurologists had them on several medications that didn’t work so they were told the headaches were stress-related. Dr. Bennett knew they had TMD and was successful in eliminating their headaches. As a result, in 1990, Dr. Bennett decided to limit his dental practice to helping patients with TMJ/TMD.

Dr. Bennett has successfully helped hundreds of patients become pain-free, including Jan from Tulsa. “Jan fell and landed on her right jaw. She spent the next seven years suffering from trauma-induced migraines. After seeing numerous doctors, none could help her. She suffered a migraine-induced stroke and seizure and was on the verge of suicide,” said Dr. Bennett. After examining Jan, he knew she was suffering from TMD and fitted her with a custom-made dental appliance. Within two weeks her headaches were gone and she was completely free of her medications. While each patient is unique, Dr. Bennett and his staff work hard to help patients become pain-free utilizing advanced techniques and state-of-the-art imaging.

Dr. Bennett is currently the only dentist in Eastern Oklahoma who is board-certified in Craniofacial Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine. He is at the top of his profession and is recognized by his peers as one of the elite practitioners in the country. Having completed over 3,000 hours of continuing education, Dr. Bennett has attained the status of Diplomate in three national organizations. He also currently serves as President of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain (AACP).

Do you suffer from chronic fatigue, have trouble sleeping or concentrating, have frequent headaches or fall asleep in your car in traffic? If so, you may have sleep apnea. Since 1995, Dr. Bennett has treated patients who snore, and those diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea, using dental appliance therapy, which is approved by the FDA. Dr. Bennett has helped hundreds of patients with sleep apnea sleep “cordless” (no CPAP) and get a good night’s sleep. Dental appliance therapy is generally covered by insurance when there is a proper diagnosis of sleep apnea and sufficient documentation.

According to Dr. Bennett, “Whether a patient has sleep apnea or TMJ/TMD, we use the latest in imaging, airway testing, and physical medicine in helping to properly diagnose and improve our patients’ lives, and put them on the road to recovery. We have many satisfied patients! Visit our website to read some of the life-changing testimonials.”
