United in Faith Worldwide! Jehovah’s Witnesses Hold Global Virtual Event in 240 Lands, 500+ Languages TULSA, Okla. — July 2, 2021 — Breaking a century-old tradition in the name of health and safety, the largest convention organization in the world has moved its annual in-person event to a virtual format for the second time in as many years, canceling nearly 6,000 conventions in 240 lands. For many years, summers in Tulsa have featured Jehovah’s Witnesses streaming into the city to take over hotels and fill restaurants as they held their conventions at various venues. In 2020, the pandemic unexpectedly interrupted that tradition, moving the international religious organization to cancel in-person conventions throughout the world and launch a global virtual event. This was a first for Jehovah’s Witnesses, who have held public conventions in stadiums, arenas, convention centers, and theaters around the world since 1897. “Powerful by Faith!” is the theme of the 2021 global event, which will be delivered in more than 500 languages to households throughout the globe over six weekends during July and August 2021, uniting some 15-20 million people in 240 countries. Since the convention is typically held from Friday through Sunday, the program will be available in six installments corresponding to morning and afternoon sessions. “Friday” morning’s session is available for streaming or download beginning June 28, 2021. Jeremy and Lacy Merritt of Tulsa are looking forward to the convention. Reflecting on this year’s program theme, Lacy said, “I feel like many people view faith in an abstract way. Yet, when investigated, the scriptures reveal how it’s based on evidence and reason.” Jeremy appreciates the convention’s virtual format and hopes the public will tune in and find solace amid world conditions. “After watching global events unfold over this past year, I hope that as many people as possible watch the convention sessions on jw.org. The problems and challenges that plague our global society continue to get worse and seem insurmountable. I know these convention sessions will reinforce why we need faith and how we can obtain it,” Jeremy said. The continued risk of bringing thousands of people together in cities around the world prompted the organization to opt for a virtual platform for the second consecutive year. However, the move has not curbed the enthusiasm for the annual event. Congregations around the world are inviting the public to join them in this historic occasion. “Faith has helped our global brotherhood to continue to thrive even during a pandemic,” said Robert Hendriks for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “Our faith will continue to unite us in worship — even virtually — as millions gather in private homes around the world to enjoy a powerful and inspiring spiritual program.” All are invited to attend the event by going to jw.org on the web or JW Broadcasting on the free JW Library iOS or Android App, or on streaming platforms like Roku TV, Apple TV, and others. The program is free and accessible to all. The schedule for download and global streaming is listed below. Find your center at this 3-Day Yoga in the Park event presented by Project Roots nonprofit founded by Bridget Pettis WHAT: The event at Chandler Park will be hosted by former WNBA champion and coach Bridget Pettis. Pettis is a certified Yogi and founder of the nonprofit organization, Project Roots. After leaving basketball in 2020 to pursue her life’s passion of feeding the homeless, supporting local farms and teaching those in need the value of growing their own food, Pettis has also brought yoga to her community garden and is now expanding her reach to other cities across the country. “I began my journey into yoga more than 10 years ago,” said Pettis. “I was very hesitant because I didn’t want to do the wrong thing and didn’t know much about yoga. I felt very confused and disconnected from my reality and who I really was at that time in my life. I began soul searching and everywhere I looked led me back inside myself. I found infinite value in being able to sit still, stop the movement and open up enough space just to Be.” “I am grateful to be able to help people be who they are and feel more grounded in self.” Bridget and the Collective Group of Black Woman Yogis will be bringing Yoga Intensives throughout many U.S. communities, starting in Tulsa, OK. Yoga in the Park with Bridget Pettis runs August 19-21and is a great opportunity for newcomers to try yoga or more advanced practitioners to develop or deepen their daily yoga practice. Rates are $25 a day or $60 for all 3 days, August 19-21. Please bring a water bottle and mat.
