The night's honoree will be Brandon Webber, Planning & Engineering Supervisor at PSO. He has been a Big Brother for eight years, and his Little Brother will be graduating from high school this year. Brandon also serves on the BBBSOK Tulsa Resource Board and encourages others in the community to become a mentor as a way to change a child's life. He will be accepting the Matt Burtelow Memorial Award, which has been given since 2001 in memory of former Big Brother Matt Burtelow, who died in an auto accident in 1999.
Tulsa Area Director Nellie Kelly sees first-hand the difference our program makes for local youth: “We know that young people are facing extreme hardships, including domestic violence and incarcerated parents. The pandemic has left children feeling even more isolated, which can increase risky behaviors. Research shows that a caring, committed mentor makes the most difference in helping children who come from hard places.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma’s evidence-based mentoring program Is designed to create positive, measurable outcomes for youth, including educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors, higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships. We match children (Littles) with caring adult role models (Bigs) so they can share and expand their worlds in new ways.
