Just in time for the start of school, more than 200 homes in Rogers County Commissioner Chair Dan DeLozier’s District 1 are now eligible to receive Cox Fiber, fiber-to-the-home multi-gig symmetrical internet service. The public-private partnership between Rogers County and Cox, announced last year, is set to bring high-speed broadband to 1,100 households in rural Rogers County.

American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) initiative

Rogers County selected Cox Communications to expand rural broadband as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) initiative. The $1 million ARPA funds from the county is matched with $2 million in private funding from Cox to expand its fiber network to homes from Sequoyah to Foyil, Will Rogers Downs area, Redbud/Tacora Hills/Briarcliff areas, and Owalla Road area.

“Our commitment to expanding access to high-speed internet to the underserved areas utilizing ARPA funds reflects on our dedication to enhancing the quality of life for our residents,” said District 2 Rogers County Commissioner Steve Hendrix, who chairs the ARPA Committee and spearheaded the initial broadband project for the county in 2022. “This marks another significant milestone in our efforts to ensure citizens have the connectivity they need in today’s digital age. We are way ahead of anyone else as far as county broadband efforts are concerned and we’re very proud of that.” To continue towards the County’s goal, District 3 Commissioner Ron Burrows advocates at the state level for additional funding.

Improving Lives With Broadband Internet

In a recent survey conducted by Cox in new market areas, previously considered unserved or underserved, 86% of customers say access to broadband has improved their lives. “High-speed internet connection brings economic prosperity to rural communities,” said Roger Ramseyer, Tulsa Market Vice President, Cox Communications. “We applaud the county for prioritizing rural broadband infrastructure and are honored they put their trust in Cox to deliver that connection. Together, we are positively impacting the lives of residents of Rogers County and helping them stay connected to the people and projects they care about the most.”

With this network expansion, families in Rogers County have access to Cox’s digital equity programs, such as ConnectAssist for individual households and Connect2Compete for households with kids in K-12. Both programs are available to qualifying, low-income, households and provide access to necessary equipment, digital training, and cyber protections, along with a low-priced, 100 Mbps broadband connection.

Digital Equity

Cox is continuing its commitment to digital equity by expanding its fiber-to-the-home network to rural and hard-to-reach areas that previously lacked an adequate broadband connection. Across Oklahoma, the company has already expanded its network to nearly 20,000 homes in areas without adequate broadband. An additional 22,000 underserved homes across 13 counties will receive a connection within the next few years through the company’s partnership with the Oklahoma Broadband Office. Late last year, Cox began connecting residents through a fiber cooperative agreement with Indian Electric Cooperative that when complete, will provide access to an additional 14,000 Oklahomans.

Cox has invested nearly $12B in network upgrades over the past 10 years (2014-2023) to deliver some of the most powerful communications and entertainment services and will continue making multibillion-dollar annual infrastructure investments over the next several years.

Residents interested in signing up for service should visit www.cox.com/getfiber, according to Cox.
