(L to R): Claremore Main Street volunteers Dave McFall, Tim Wantland, Carolyn Peterson and Dale Peterson.
Would you like to win a Pot o’ Gold? You don’t even need to locate the rainbow for your opportunity to win, as the prize is part of Claremore Main Street’s 5th annual Bangers and Mash Lunch to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
“This is a unique St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Claremore,” says Cindy Bissett, Claremore Main Street executive director. “It’s a fun-filled time and family-oriented event. It’s also an opportunity for us to raise money for downtown improvements such as planters, art murals, decorations and other improvements.”
Organizers will be cooking up the traditional Irish meal of bangers and mash on Friday, March 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. downtown in the Daily Progress parking lot, just west of their building. “The bangers are a traditional Irish sausage similar to a bratwurst,” says Dale Peterson, planning committee member. “John Walke of Walke Brothers Meat did the research and found the traditional recipe. He makes them specially for this event.” Cost of the meal including dessert and drink is only $6.
The “kissing of the Blarney Stone” will return again this year. According to legend, kissing the stone endows the kisser with the gift of gab – great eloquence or skill at flattery. If you need to improve your speaking skills and you’re brave enough to kiss it, you get the special T-shirt that entitles you to a discount meal at next year’s event. Returning to entertain the crowd will be the always fun Timothy O’Brian Celtic Cheer Band.
A fun new activity this year will be the addition of the night time St. Paddy Party. This event, which will include Irish music, dancing, food and beverages, will be held in downtown Claremore from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 15. “We are very excited to offer even more fun for St. Patrick’s Day revelers,” says Peterson. “We have wanted to include night time activities for the holiday and will kick it off this year. We have bands and dancers already lined up to appear.”
The chances to win the Pot o’ Gold drawing will be available at participating downtown merchants beginning Friday, March 1. Just visit our great local retailers as many times as you want until Wednesday, March 13 to get your entries.
