City of Broken Arrow Road Construction Update

Beyond the Dirt and Cones

By: Jennifer Rush | Category: Special Interest | Issue: April 2024

Traffic and road construction affects us all. To help ease the pain, the City of Broken Arrow has provided a road construction update for the month of April.

Albany Street Widening Project

The Albany Street widening project, from Lynn Lane to County Line Road, finished more than 100 days ahead of schedule. The road has been widened to five lanes, the intersection replaced, and a new crossing signal at 12th Street is helping children cross the street as they walk to and from school. Kudos to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the contractor, Becco, for their efficient work on this project.

County Line Road

Now, staying on County Line Road, also known as 23rd Street, let's talk about Houston to Kenosha. ODOT is widening County Line Road to five lanes and building a new bridge over State Highway 51. The work continues on the bridge's substructure and the bridge's concrete deck work is expected to begin soon. To make way for the bridge work, a temporary travel route is in place along the east side of 23rd Street, from Houston to College Streets. Additionally, the stormwater improvements at the Houston and 23rd Street intersection are being worked on and will continue for several weeks. This project is expected to be finished in the next couple of months and will be an amazing improvement, especially for our east side residents.

Elam Park

The mass grading and underdrains are complete at Elam Park. Installation of the driveway, site, and restroom utilities and the park's irrigation system are all underway. A retaining wall and 90 percent of the playground concrete are now in place. The restroom walls are also finished, with the roofing to follow soon. The playground shade structures are going in as well. Elam Park is expected to open late spring or early summer.

Events Park

A new road is under construction at Events Park. The Stormwater crew has completed the curb and gutter and is now forming and pouring the concrete for a bike/walking trail. The street crew recently laid two lifts of asphalt and will add another after the remaining construction in the area is complete.

And lastly, you may have noticed the red signal poles at various intersections throughout the city. The contractor is priming the poles with a red tint. They will power wash, prime, and paint the signal lights, poles, and bases black at 28 intersections in the coming months.
