Celebrated horseman Dick Pieper will demonstrate his talents at the third annual Mane Event.
World-famous horseman Dick Pieper will demonstrate his horsemanship skills at Tulsa Boys’ Home’s third annual “Mane Event” fundraiser on Saturday, July 21 this year!
The Mane Event kicks off at 9 a.m. at Tulsa Boys’ Home’s Sherman E. Smith Arena, located at 2727 S. 137th W. Ave. in Sand Springs. Master horseman Dick Pieper will demonstrate and teach horsemanship for novice and expert horsemen and horsewomen alike, including total lateral suppleness and collection, horseman half pass, and advanced exercises including circles, stops, rollbacks, spins and lead changes. The Mane Event this year is a unique opportunity to see and learn from a truly great horseman!
Pieper is considered the “Grandfather of Reining” as well as a World Class Cutting competitor. Dick has won national recognition showing his horse “Mr. Jim 45” to the title of AQHA Honor Roll Reining Stallion in 1972. In 1977, he won the NRHA Futurity, and the Co-Reserve Champion of the Futurity in 1979. That same year, he also won his first AQHA World Championship title in Junior Reining. Between 1976 and 1995, Dick rode 23 NRHA Futurity finalists, and was a top 20 money earner for many years following.
In 1985, Pieper showed his horse, “Miss Cee Blair,” to the title of NRHA World Champion Open Horse, setting a record for money earned in one year that was not broken until 1994 when the horse’s son, “Cee Blair Sailer,” also trained by Dick, set an even higher record. In 1991, Pieper showed “Texas Kicker” to AQHA World Champion Junior Reining Horse, setting another record in the finals. During his career, Dick won or placed in every major reining event on the North American continent and several in Europe.
The Pieper Ranch in Marietta, Oklahoma is home to AQHA Reining World Champion “Texas Kicker” and leading cutting horse performer and sire, “Playgun.” Dick was also featured in the March 2012 edition of “Western Horseman” magazine.
