Janet Adams, Paul Gatton and Susan Boggs have teamed up to form the Dump Your Plump program at the Owasso Fitness Zone.
With summer in full swing, many area residents have spent a great deal of time at Owasso Fitness Zone to keep themselves healthy and in shape for the season. Owner Paul Gatton has recently teamed up with the Nutex Corporation, a local company that aims to promote corporate wellness. The two came together to institute a program called Dump Your Plump for employees of Precision Components Company, better known as PCC, in Owasso.
“We’re just grateful to Paul for opening his gym for the Dump Your Plump program,” says Janet Adams of the Nutex Corporation. A description of the Nutex Corporation is included in its mission statement: “a health care cost management company that assists corporations in assessing the modifiable portion of their healthcare claims to determine those risks and costs that could be eliminated if employees improved their lifestyles. Using this data, a targeted health promotion plan is developed, implemented and tracked to assure improved employee health and reduced healthcare claims.”
“The goal of our corporation is to help people make healthy lifestyle changes,” Adams says. “Our hope for PCC is that its employees benefit from our services to increase their overall quality of life.”
Susan Boggs, human resources manager at Precision Components Company, is also grateful to Gatton and Owasso Fitness Zone. She expects to see great results from the program. “This gives our employees the opportunity to make small improvements and take steps toward better health,” Boggs says. “The accountability always makes it easier than trying to do it alone.”
Dump Your Plump’s concept is simple. Thirty-one PCC employees will divide into teams and compete against each other. Teams earn points both for exercise and weight loss. Members are awarded two points for every day a team member exercises, and each person can earn up to 10 points per week. PCC’s parent company in Grove, Okla., Precision Machine and Manufacturing, referred to as PMM, is also participating at a gym in its area. Teams have fun names like P.H.A.T.S.O., short for “PCC’s Hefty Administrative Team Stops Obesity.” The Big Macs, Beefy Boys and Belly Bob and His Bodacious Babes are also in the running.
According to Boggs, prizes will be distributed to the winners, but the ultimate prize is a healthier workplace. “We believe that healthy families lead to a healthy workplace, leading to a healthy community,” she says.
Gatton has confidence in Dump Your Plump; he has given free 30-day trial memberships to PCC employees to help the teams get started. Jazzercise instructor Melissa Rutherford is matching Paul’s gift, giving the teams 30 days of free Jazzercise classes. The teams will not only benefit from Owasso Fitness Zone’s top-notch facilities, but they will get to experience the help and support that the gym’s members receive from Gatton and his staff.
“We’re glad to have them here, and we will try to help everyone,” Gatton says. “We are all about customer service and results, and we hope to establish relationships with all 31 employees that continue exercising after the competition is over.”
Establishing relationships is very important to Gatton, and he continually works to make everyone at Owasso Fitness Zone feel welcome. With personal training geared to every level and age group, there is no reason for anyone to feel uncomfortable or out of place. Owasso Fitness Zone offers something for everyone. Join the Dump Your Plump competitors and let Gatton and his staff help you get started in your quest for better health.
