The Rock Church’s stated mission is to serve God and love people, and the church’s pastors, Billy Joe and Theresa Watts, see major holidays as golden opportunities to fulfill that mission.

On Saturday, April 3, The Rock Church is hosting its annual Easter Extraordinaire at Union Intermediate High School, 7616 S. Garnett. “This is a big celebration for the whole family,” says Theresa. “It’s a fun day with a lot of activities. We’re going to have inflatables and plenty of candy. We’ll have a lot of games and activities for the kids, so there will be many ways for kids to be involved.” One of the highlights for the children is the Easter egg hunt, where the kids will search for eggs filled not only with candy but with a hundred golden dollar coins.

Food for the Easter Extraordinaire will be provided by Don Juan’s Tamales, Rolling Ribs, and Uncle Vinnie’s Pizza of Broken Arrow. Everyone in attendance will have their initial food tickets provided free, compliments of The Rock Church.

The event will feature live music from The Rock Church’s worship band, led by Glenn Henry, which will play Christian music, some jazz, and some 70s. Local Christian rap artist Fedel will also be performing.

The Easter Extraordinaire’s highlight event is the $500 Egg Toss, at 2 p.m. this year. There’s no age limit and no cost to participate, and each member of the winning team will receive $250 cash.

In addition to a medical station, The Rock Church will have a prayer station onsite. “We’ll just be there for anyone who needs to come,” says Billy Joe. “We invite you to come – we’ll pray with you about anything that’s bothering you. We want to show you we love you and give you some spiritual support.”

The Rock Church’s youth group will be on hand selling “sweet treats and homemade goodies,” according to Theresa, and raising money for their trip to Camp Decision in Deland, Florida this summer.

The Rock Church’s Easter Extraordinaire is Saturday, April 3 from noon to 3 p.m. at Union’s I-High. The event is open to the community. Come out, wear sunscreen and have a good time.

The Rock Church also uses Mother’s Day (May 9 this year) and Father’s Day (June 20) to celebrate parents and parenthood. During their services on these days, The Rock Church honors parents and gives away all kinds of things, from pedicures, manicures, spa treatments, weekend getaways and restaurant certificates for the ladies, to grills, bed-and-breakfast stays and golf gear for the men. This year, The Rock Church will be holding a Mother’s Day brunch for the ladies on Saturday, May 15 at Philbrook Museum, and a Father’s Day men’s event on Saturday, June 19. “These are wonderful opportunities for us to honor the men and women in our lives,” says Billy Joe.

The Rock Church holds worship services every Sunday at 10 a.m. at Union’s Performing Arts Center at 6636 S. Mingo. The first Sunday of every month (including Easter, this year) is a Communion service. There’s always plenty going on there, and they’d love to see you.
