Just a few of the friendly faces at Fit For Her include (L to R): Stephanie Webb, staff member; Laura Myers, personal trainer and instructor; Tara Hill, personal trainer; and Adana Gittelman, owner, personal trainer and instructor.
“We have been truly blessed,” says Fit for Her owner Adana Gittleman, as she reflects on the facility’s upcoming 11th anniversary. During a decade when gyms and fitness centers opened and closed by the dozen, Fit for Her in Owasso has continuously grown each year.
That is no surprise to members. Designed by a woman, exclusively for women, Fit for Her offers an extraordinarily clean, secure and upscale fitness center at a cost that does not put a strain on the budget. The strength and cardio equipment gleams. The spa-like dressing room features granite countertops, mahogany lockers and individual tile showers. Every inch of the 6,400-square-foot gym is meticulously maintained, with even the smallest issue addressed within 24 hours.
Two tanning facilities, a sauna and new head-to-toe massage chairs, which even include the hands, provide simple pleasures that make for a retreat any time, any day. An electronic access card provides secured entry after normal business hours.
A monthly schedule of day and evening classes lets members choose from a variety of options ranging from light exercise for beginners to high intensity calorie-burning workouts for ladies who really want to challenge themselves. There are barbell classes, Zumba, metabolic training, high intensity interval training (Tabata), Sculpt, kickboxing, PiYo, and Yogalates, just to name a few of the offerings. Classes are held seven days a week. An additional and popular option is Boot Camp with Melinda Young, held at 5:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 8 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Starting in January, a new Boot Camp for ages 10-17 only, taught by Lara Myers, will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 4:55 p.m.
For those who want one-on-one assistance to reach their fitness goals, eight nationally certified personal trainers are available. The personal training packages are some of the lowest cost in the area.
Moms can bring their kids to play in two specially designed playhouses. Closed circuit televisions allow them keep an eye on their children from anywhere in the gym.
In February, a new weight loss challenge will launch. Back by popular demand, the program that began two years ago ended with more than 40 successful participants losing anywhere from 7 to 35 pounds each.
“It’s not just the gym and the classes,” says Adana. “We are surrounded by the best staff and the best instructors anyone could ask for.” Everyone who comes through the door is greeted with a smile, she explains. They make it a point to learn names and make the ladies feel welcome. And then there are the members. “Without these wonderful ladies, we would not have a business,” she adds. “Like I said, we are truly blessed.”
Ladies heard about the fitness center through friends or co-workers. They enrolled to get a strong, healthy body. But they found so much more. “We have such a friendly, nurturing atmosphere,” she says. To many ladies, Fit For Her is like home away from home.
To mark the 11th year anniversary on March 3, Fit For Her is holding a prize drawing. The grand prize is $500. Second and third prize winners will receive six months and three months free membership. From now until March 3, any lady who visits for the first time and takes a no-obligation tour is entered in the drawing. Existing members can bring a guest and both their names will be entered. The first 50 new members will receive a free limited edition T-shirt.
Use of the gym, classes and tanning are all included in one low monthly fee. There are no additional annual fees and no contracts required. Fit For Her is located on the third floor of the bright yellow clock tower building behind Walgreen’s at 9500 N. 129th E. Ave. Staff hours are 10 to 8 Monday through Friday and 10 to 3 on Saturdays. The gym is open 24/7. The lights are always on for you.
