The holidays are a time to observe old traditions – but they can become a time to create new traditions as well, making this a perfect opportunity to visit Art in Bloom in Owasso. Owner Sheri McLaughlin and staff welcome the chance to help you discover why Art in Bloom should be “your flower shop.” The friendly, knowledgeable staff includes Debbie Howard, Gwen Gurka and Michael Rausher. Michael's mom, Patty, comes in from Ozark, Arkansas to help with busy floral events and holiday decorations.
“We can provide you with all of your floral needs, as well as elegant, unique gifts and décor for your home and office,” says Sheri. “We encourage everyone to come in and see what we have to offer.”
Art in Bloom is prepped for the holiday, with floral arrangements and accessories that make perfect gifts, in addition to Old World Christmas ornaments and other Christmas décor. One popular item for the Christmas season is poinsettias, which Art in Bloom purchases from a greenhouse in McAlester, cutting out the middleman and ensuring that the poinsettias are fresh. In fact, there is never a middleman when it comes to flowers at Art in Bloom. “We don’t use wholesalers; we buy direct,” Sheri says. “Our flowers last longer because they are fresher.”
Want to give your holiday party or event a beautiful and unique touch? Art in Bloom is known for its decorative flair and has provided floral arrangements and decorations for several local events over the years. “We provide the centerpieces for Dress for Success’s annual holiday event,” says Sheri. “Every year, they bring us a couple of pairs of shoes and we use them to make arrangements. We try to be really creative.” Art in Bloom also helps decorate for the Owasso City Gala. “One year we had an Oriental red lantern theme and used bamboo cross sections with lilies and curly willow stems,” Sheri recalls. “It was beautiful and so much fun.”
Art in Bloom has also done some very beautiful weddings, and they offer a home decorating service using items from the store. "If a client comes in and wants us to go to their house with a few things he or she has picked out, we are happy to do so," says Sheri. "We get a feel for what they like and then suggest other items as well." Art in Bloom charges by the hour for this service – call the store for more details.
The staff at Art in Bloom endeavors not only to provide great service, but to get to know their customers, striving to make first-time visitors regular clients. Their clients include event coordinators for weddings and parties, businesses, and individuals. One established way they cater to the individual is with Happy Hour. Every Friday, they put out containers of flowers for half price, and clients choose the flowers they want to take home and arrange. Sheri says this is a popular weekly tradition for many. “We have a young man who comes in every week to buy his mom and girlfriend a bouquet,” says Sheri. “And we have one man who travels frequently and always stops to buy his wife a bouquet when he returns from a trip.” Every week a certain couple stops in so the husband can help his wife pick out a bouquet of flowers for the week. “He used to come by himself,” Sheri says with a smile. “But soon he began bringing her, and it has become their tradition.”
Sheri has always enjoyed the saying about the difference between Europeans and Americans: In Europe, if you don't bring flowers home for the weekend, something is wrong; in the United States, if you do bring home flowers, something is wrong. "We are trying to change the mentality to that of Europe so that people should expect flowers every weekend and for no reason at all."
No matter what your floral needs, be sure to visit the staff at Art in Bloom. “We deliver to Owasso, Sperry, Collinsville, Tulsa and Broken Arrow,” says Sheri. Call (918) 274-8800 for more information.
