The Green Country Bonsai Society presents their annual exhibition at the Tulsa Garden Center October 20-21.

The month of October is filled with fun, educational activities at the Tulsa Garden Center, located at 2435 S. Peoria.

Kicking off the month is the African Violet Society of Greater Tulsa Show & Sale, October 5-6 at the Wyndham Hotel, 10918 E. 41st St. in Tulsa. Sale times are Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Show hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Public seminars will be available. This show and sale is held in conjunction with a district-wide

meeting and flower show. On sale will be violets, related plants and supplies. Check out the huge variety of these beautiful flowers at the show and sale!

On Tuesday, October 16 will be the monthly book discussion club, held in the Tulsa Garden Center Library from noon to 1 p.m. The book club is free and open to the public. This month’s book is “Trowel and Error: Over 700 Tips, Remedies and Shortcuts for the Gardener” by Sharon Lovejoy. Ever since she was old enough to help her grandmother in the garden, Sharon Lovejoy has spent her life working with plants, and along the way, through “trowel and error,” she accumulated hundreds of remedies, tips, shortcuts, and cure-alls. “Trowel and Error” collects all of her homespun garden advice into an inviting, whimsically illustrated yet helpful book.

Every third Thursday of the month, the Brown Bag Lecture Series is held at Tulsa Garden Center. It is from noon to 1 p.m. and is open and free to the public. Feel free to bring your lunch! On Thursday, October 18, Kym Roberts-Hardesty will discuss animal rescue and why it’s important.

October 20-21, Green Country Bonsai Society presents their annual fall exhibition of miniature trees by local bonsai artists at the Tulsa Garden Center. Show hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Members will present demonstrations on how to create your own bonsai from common nursery material.

The Tulsa Calligraphy Guild will host a workshop, “Artful Sketchbook Journaling” presented by Janet Takahashi, at the Garden Center October 26-28. Workshops are discounted for Calligraphy Guild Members, but even if you are not a member, they’d still love to have you at the workshop.
