Jennifer Adams, left, and her mother-in-law and business partner, Patty Wylie, held their grand opening for Dirt Road Boutique on Saturday, April 5.

Ask Jennifer Adams or Patty Wylie to describe their new business, Dirt Road Boutique, and they both respond with one word – unique. Another word for unique is different, and when you walk through the doors of the new boutique located on the east side of Ne-Mar Center, you will understand why.

Family-owned and operated, Dirt Road Boutique offers contemporary, stylish country home décor as well as trendy, affordable jewelry and ladies apparel ranging from junior sizes to women’s 3X. They also specialize in silk floral designs.
The daughter-in-law/mother-in-law team –co-owners of the boutique – had been talking about starting their own business for quite a while. “Finally,” says mother-in-law Patty, “we decided to do it.”

Both women love decorating and fashion. Patty reveals that each fixture in the store was once a piece of furniture. “We don’t have typical store fixtures,” she says. “We used old furniture pieces that we repurposed.” Old desks, dressers, bookcases, tables and even doors have been transformed into beautiful fixtures to display the vast array of products.
In addition to their unique store fixtures, you will discover merchandise not found anywhere else in Claremore. “We wanted to be different and not like everyone else,” says Jennifer. “There’s not another store in town like it.”

So what will you find at Dirt Road Boutique? Unusual home décor including photos and frames, canister sets, clocks, lamps, candle holders, vases, mirrors, table runners, wreaths and furniture – and everything is affordable. Because the items are unique, “not everyone will have the same thing you have,” says Jennifer – and that applies to home décor as well as ladies apparel and accessories.

“We’re also not going to keep the same thing in stock,” she adds. “When something sells out, we’ll move onto something else. So every time you come in, you will see new merchandise.”
“Our business is centered on our strong Christian beliefs, and we proudly carry Keepers of the Light jar candles, melts and pillar candles,” Jennifer adds. “They are a Christian-based company out of New Jersey hiring the handicapped, paying them a full wage and allowing them to work however long they wish to wick their candles.”

Another product line the store carries is a renowned bath and body line from Somerset, England. “We have three of the Somerset Toiletry Companies’ tropical scents – Grapefruit & Orange, Coconut & Lime, and Strawberry & Papaya in Hand & Body Lotion, Shower Gel, Sugar Scrub, and Body Cream.”

Patty, who has over 40 years experience in the floral design business, including almost 10 years with Cohlamias in Tulsa, also brings her expertise with silk flower arrangements to Claremore. Her delightful, creative arrangements, including floral wreaths, won’t be found elsewhere in town. “We also sell silk flowers so customers can make their own arrangements or wreaths. If you want a custom arrangement, you can also bring in your own container,” Patty adds.
With their combined skills in designing and setting things up, the team has helped brides with wedding flowers and décor. “We also offer this service through our boutique,” says Jennifer. Patty adds, “We have something in here for everybody.”

That something for everyone also includes an exclusive line of Abdallah gourmet candy, including caramels, candy bars, chocolate singles and a type of turtle candy called “grizzlies.”
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, you can find many wonderful gift ideas – and gift wrapping is only $1. If you just can’t make up your mind, you can also purchase a gift certificate in any denomination.

“Everyone who comes in the door says how cute our store is and how good our prices are,” says Jennifer. “Come in, look around and see for yourself just how unique we are.”
Oh, and their unique store name? “We both grew up in the country,” she adds. “Our best memories are from some old dirt road.”
