General Manager Ken Wilkins takes part in a life-saving blood drive hosted by Bob Moore Nissan of Tulsa.
On Saturday, August 6, Bob Moore Auto Group held blood drives at each of its dealerships in Oklahoma and Texas. According to Ken Wilkins, general manager of Bob Moore Nissan in Tulsa, “We wanted to give back to the community in a way that would save lives, and blood donations save lives everyday.”
The blood drives at the Bob Moore dealerships began in 2000. “This is Bob Moore Nissan’s first full year in Tulsa, and our first blood drive is one way we’re celebrating our anniversary,” says Ken. “During the summer, there are a lot more car wrecks as well as outdoor activities that occur, which result in a lot more injuries. There’s a huge need for blood. We’re so happy to be able to help the community in this way.”
The Bob Moore blood drives in Tulsa, Edmond, Norman and Oklahoma City typically have fantastic turnouts. “This year’s blood drive, held at ten dealerships, had 906 participants and produced 734 units of blood in one day. Of the donors, 204 were first-time OBI participants,” said Ken. According to the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI), who partnered with Bob Moore Nissan of Tulsa for the blood drive, one unit, or one person’s blood donation, can save up to three people’s lives. In total, one “I’ve Got Drive” blood drive could possibly save 2,202 lives.
Those 16 and older and who are generally in good health can donate blood. Blood can be donated every 56 days. OBI supplies every drop of blood used by patients in more than 130 medical facilities throughout Oklahoma.
In addition to the incentive of helping save lives, blood donors at Bob Moore Auto Group’s blood drive also had the chance to win a brand-new SUV. “Five people were chosen at random from that day’s pool of donors and were given keys to a 2011 Subaru Forester,” says Ken. “On August 13, those five people tried their keys in the Forester, and the person’s key who started the ignition won a brand-new Subaru Forester!”
Bob Moore Auto Group hosts blood drives at its dealerships once or twice a year, so keep your eyes open for the next upcoming one. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend, donate blood, and help save a life or more.
Bob Moore Nissan is located just east of 31st and Memorial, right next door to Jim Glover Chevrolet. They offer a large selection of new and used inventory, as well as a superior service department dedicated to maintaining top-tier, timely customer service.
