Beyond Van Gogh

Witness over 300 masterpieces, including instantly-recognizable classics such as “The Starry Night”, “Sunflowers” and “Café Terrace at Night”, now freed from their frames. Navajo Weaving Class
January 4-6, 2024
Learn how to weave in the Navajo tradition at Shepherd's Cross in Claremore. This weekend class will teach participants weaving techniques, fiber arts history and practical technology. All materials are provided for retreat guests. Relax and enjoy a weekend on the farm while you learn a new skill during the Navajo Weaving Class. Hours: Thursday: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, Friday: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, Saturday: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.

First Friday Art Crawl
January 5, 2024 | 6 - 9 p.m.
Since 2007, the Tulsa Arts District has presented the community with rotating art displays as part of the monthly First Friday Art Crawl events. Every first Friday of the month, visitors can explore artwork inside galleries, studios and museums and catch a few live music performances or even an exciting fireworks display. As an added bonus, art crawlers can take advantage of free museum and gallery admission while shopping later than normal business hours would allow. Hit the district early for dinner, or stay a little later for a craft cocktail best enjoyed on an outdoor patio.

Here be Dragons: Mapping the Real and Imagined
January 17-29, 2024
Here be Dragons: Mapping the Real and Imagined presents artworks from the Philbrook collection that span over three hundred years of history, and that build a sense of place, whether real or imagined. The exhibition, which features a range of interpretations of locations, moments, or even experiences, includes elaborate topographic views of seventeenth-century Europe alongside contemporary prints that explore abstract conceptions of land, including representations of memory and the contested nature of property and ownership. Whether depicting a bird’s-eye view of a landscape, the iconic architecture of a city, or the idea of place, the artworks in Here be Dragons provides a chance for visitors to step into landscapes and to consider not only the perspectives of the artists, but also perhaps their own relationship to the places they experience every day.

Immerse yourself in the history, context, and art of films in this 6-week workshop so you can deepen your appreciation and enjoyment of filmmaking. In this workshop, centered on film noir, we will: - Watch groundbreaking films together - Discuss their notable qualities, and - Consider what critics and scholars have to say about this groundbreaking genre (and its subgenres) Expect a compelling watch list (with some B movie gems) and suggested readings from James Naremore, Imogen Sara Smith, and Paul Schrader. Start Your Novel

Kickstart your novel writing journey! Whether you're a seasoned writer or a beginner, this in-person workshop at OSU-Tulsa is the perfect opportunity to get inspired and craft your masterpiece. This workshop will focus on techniques for finding not only the beginning of a novel--of getting started--but for finding a way into a sustainable book-length work, specifically focusing on helpful and generative constraints, doing in-class work and looking at successful opening sentences. Featuring Instructor: Nathan Knapp Nathan Knapp's writing has appeared in 3:AM, The Times Literary Supplement, The Point, Music & Literature, The Rupture, and elsewhere. His debut novel, DAYBOOK, will be published in 2024 by Splice. Registration for this Workshop will close at 5pm on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Inspirations, Signature Symphony Performance
January 27, 2024 | 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.
This concert features an adaptation of Georges Bizet’s fiery and controversial Carmen by Rodion Schedrin, where the opera is now transformed into ballet and features strings and percussion to convey this passionate work. The Tulsa Youth Symphony joins the Signature Symphony on the first part of the program featuring the zesty rhythms of Astor Piazzolla and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, a work that utilizes two string orchestras and a solo quartet to pay a mesmerizingly beautiful homage to English composer Thomas Tallis. Featuring Tulsa Youth Symphony.
