Jason Carini hopes to serve his community as the next Rogers County Treasurer.
Local business owner and longtime Rogers County resident Jason Carini has announced his candidacy for Rogers County Treasurer. Carini said he is running because he believes there needs to be a dramatic change in the office.
“The Oklahoma State Auditor’s 2011 and 2012 reports found the Rogers County Treasurer’s office with inadequate segregation of duties, no procedures to ensure daily bank deposits were safe, and that her office has been using county property for personal use. The incumbent has held the office for 23 years and, apparently, she hasn’t learned the job. It is time taxpayers elect a new County Treasurer,” Carini said.
“I am running to establish lawful and proper accounting practices, clear procedures and controls to safeguard public money and maintain accuracy, transparency and accountability. This is not a silly game for personal pleasure. The operation of the Treasurer’s office is critical to the success of Rogers County. It’s the people’s money and it is time for a treasurer that understands the duty, honor and responsibility of the office,” Carini said.
“I have operated a business debt free for the past five years – a demanding task requiring careful money management. It is clear from the Auditor’s report that Rogers County needs a competent manager with real business experience.
Carini continued, “The Auditor’s report explained clearly that purchasing ‘equipment for personal use is an abuse of County funds,’ but if the County Treasurer doesn’t know that after having worked for 13 years as an employee then elected for 23 years, then when will she ever learn? We can’t afford to give her another four years of on-the-job training.”
Carini was home educated through high school and graduated in 2006 from Patrick Henry College in Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Public Policy. In 2009, he co-founded Green Country Mowing, which employs six people, and operates debt free. Jason and his wife, Jessica, live in Catoosa and have two children. He also teaches a weekly bible study.
“The County Treasurer is responsible for hard-earned money from the people of Rogers County to take care of roads, bridges, law enforcement and other basic needs. I believe every penny counts. I will apply honest, lawful and proven successful management principles to the Treasurer’s office daily.”
“Being the County Treasurer is a full-time job, and for too long the incumbent has treated it like a hobby,” Carini said.
“The 2011 and 2012 Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s audits of Rogers County shows the Rogers County Treasurer is unqualified. That is not an insult, but a fact of ‘repeat findings,’ according to the report. That is the reason I ask for the support of every honest taxpayer in Rogers County. Let’s clean this mess up,” Carini added.
