A Ride to Remember Black Wall Street

June 1, 2024 | 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Hop on your bike and take a tour of one of Oklahoma's most storied areas during the Ride to Remember Black Wall Street. The tour features routes ranging from 15 to 70 miles that highlight Tulsa and the historic Black Wall Street area. The beautiful yet challenging routes will cross the Skiatook Dam, Blue Water Tower, and Sperry on the way back. Learn about one of Oklahoma's most pivotal points in history while enjoying the beautiful Tulsa scenery during the Ride to Remember Black Wall Street.

All Day Black Towns Bus Tour

June 1, 2024 | 8 a.m.

Learn about Oklahoma's African-American history during the All-Black Towns Bus Tour. Between 1865 and 1915, there were roughly 60 black towns settled in the United States, and Oklahoma led all the other states with more than 20 within its borders. Learn the fascinating history of these towns on this unique tour. This all-day tour event will depart from Rudisill Regional Library in Tulsa and travel to the historic areas like Redbird, Tullahassee and the Fort Gibson Historic Site. Space is limited, so please purchase tickets in advance at Rudisill Regional Library in person. Ticket cost covers breakfast, lunch, and museum fare.

Woolaroc Mountain Man Camp

Want to learn how to throw a tomahawk or shoot a black powder long gun? The Mountain Man Camp is the place to be! Guests are transported to a 1840s fur traders’ camp where they experience hands-on engagement with our mountain men who educate and entertain. A big hit for all ages!

Our Oily Past Exhibit at BAHM

June 1-30, 2024 | 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

This Spring,the Bartlesville Area History Museum is proud to present: “Our Oily Past” on display from April 1st through July 1st, the exhibit takes visitors on a journey exploring the successes of H.V. Foster and how he turned visions of wealth into revolutionizing the nation’s energy industry by taking over the development of the oil and natural gas Blanket Leases which was then controlled by the business, the Indian Territory Illuminating Oil company (I.T.I.O). The exhibit will feature various artifacts from local oil companies like I.T.I.O and youngsters or the “young at heart” may enjoy our history of oil coloring station and gander through BAHMs turn of the century Nelson Carr One-Room School! Museum admission is free, but donations are always welcome. No reservation is necessary.

Not Even Past: Writing History with Flair

This 3-week workshop will be held on the following Mondays: 6/3, 6/10, and 6/17/2024 from 7-9pm at OSU-Tulsa in person with Zoom option: *first meeting will occur on Zoom* Learn more and register at https://bit.ly/4bFDGVr In this class, we'll explore local subjects (Oklahoma, broadly and Tulsa, more particularly) that can serve as inspirations for lively history writing. Students will learn basic historical methodologies through fun activities, while also focusing on the craft of writing and editing. Students do not need any background in history or journalism. We welcome genealogists, memoir writers, community activists, and truth-seekers of all persuasions. The only requirement is curiosity about Oklahoma themes and issues. Registration will close at 5pm on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

“Tito” Teenth!

This year, the museum will be commemorating Juneteenth – Day of Freedom with a discussion with new resident, Tito Jackson of the Jackson Five. Moderator will be former Miss Oklahoma, Daneka Allen. The Ross Family Choir will be on hand to perform and a transparent discussion on the diversity challenges he has faced in his career. Bass Reeves Western History Conference

June 20-22, 2024 | 8:30 a.m.

See the story of Bass Reeves come to life during the Bass Reeves Western History Conference. Bass Reeves was the first African-American to be commissioned as a U.S. Deputy Marshal west of the Mississippi River. After Oklahoma gained statehood in 1907, Jim Crow laws prevented him from continuing as a deputy marshal, and he joined the Muskogee Police Department. This event is ticketed and includes territorial re-enactors, special speakers, interactive tours, documentaries, contests, food, and fun. Learn about Bass, the Light Horseman and other historic figures during the Indian Territory time period. Attendees are welcome and encouraged to dress in Western attire.

Turkey Rocks! The Geology of Turkey Mountain for the Non-Geologist

June 22, 2024 | 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Turkey Rocks is a 2-mile easy to moderate hike with multiple stops on established trails. Geologist, Steve King, will lead the tour and discuss features and the processes that created them. The most common fossils of the period will be seen and discussed. The features, processes, and fossils are evidence and chapters within the story of when and how Turkey Mountain was formed. This hike can be strenuous in places and is NOT recommended for people with mobility issues or children under 14. The hike will last about 2 hours. Limit of 2 tickets per order. We can only have about 10 people in each group hike so tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. NO TICKETS will be sold the day of or onsite.

Scout Night

June 25, 2024 | 6 - 7 p.m.

Scout Night is happening at the Oklahoma Aquarium on June 25th at 6:00 p.m. This event is a perfect opportunity for scouts to explore Oklahoma's only ocean! At 6:30 p.m. each Scout Night, our education department will give an educational program for our guests. Each program will be STEM-related, varying in topics from ocean creatures to environmental conservation. The event also offers scouts the chance to participate in a unique scavenger hunt within the aquarium. Scouts will learn about aquatic animals and conservation while searching for clues during the scavenger hunt.
