The Don Thornton Volkswagen of Tulsa service team (L to R): Sam, Janet, Doug and Kim.
The Don Thornton family has been selling and servicing automobiles in Tulsa and surrounding areas for 50 years. The public’s relationship with the Thornton family began with a Volkswagen dealership, and in 2012 Don Thornton was reunited with the VW brand. Today, the Don Thornton name is associated with several luxury brands including Lexus, Cadillac, Audi, Land Rover and Jaguar.
Don Thornton Volkswagen of Tulsa is housed in a brand new facility at 42nd and South Memorial Drive in Tulsa and sports many new faces and services. According to Service Manager Doug Bray, “The entire Don Thornton Volkswagen of Tulsa team is proud of our beautiful new facility, and every member is focused and committed to building lasting relationships with customers within the communities of northeastern Oklahoma. It’s great being associated with the craftsmanship and value represented by the iconic VW brand.”
All of the dealership’s technicians are Volkswagen Certified, highly skilled and factory trained, and use only genuine Volkswagen parts when servicing your vehicle. The new service department has four service advisors who greet you on the fully enclosed, climate controlled Service Drive: Doug, who has 16 years of experience, Sam with 14 years, Janet with 14 years, and Kim with 6 years. The team is knowledgeable, friendly and professional. The service department also features an Express Maintenance Drive with technicians who perform oil changes, tire rotations and battery replacements. You can buy most major brands of tires and have them balanced and installed. The Express Maintenance Drive is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
With spring break happening this month, a lot of people will be hitting the road for spring travel. The Don Thornton Volkswagen team offers some tips on preparing for spring travel in your Volkswagen: Check the fluids in your car, including oil, brake, transmission, power steering, coolant and windshield washer fluids. Check the engine brake system and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected. Check that the battery connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free. Check the pressure of all tires, including the spare. Check the tread for uneven or irregular wear and cuts and bruises along the sidewalls. Have your car’s alignment checked to help reduce tire wear and improve fuel economy and handling. Be sure you have clean air filters and fuel filters. If your windshield wipers aren’t doing their job, have them replaced. Verify that the engine coolant, belts, and hoses are in proper working order, as the number one cause of breakdowns is cooling system failure. Also, make sure the air conditioning system is working properly – you don’t want to be without cool air on a warm spring day! Another important thing to remember is that all Volkswagens have wheel locking systems, so make sure you have your wheel lock key in case you get a flat tire.
When you bring your vehicle in for service at Don Thornton Volkswagen of Tulsa, you’ll appreciate knowing that it will be washed and vacuumed prior to its return to you. They also offer service loaner vehicles by appointment and a shuttle service to make delivery and pick up more convenient. Every vehicle coming in for periodic maintenance or service will get a complimentary multi-point vehicle inspection. “We send reminders to our customers for factory recommended services when they become due,” adds Doug.
Don Thornton Volkswagen of Tulsa considers its relationship with customers to be an honor and a privilege. “The secret to our success is really quite simple: treat people with respect, be fair and honest, and give each customer our very best each and every day,” said Mr. Thornton.
