The deadline for performing artists for Tulsa International Mayfest is January 15, 2010.
The 38th annual Tulsa International Mayfest, scheduled for May 13-16, 2010, is accepting applications from performing and visual artists for the 2010 festival. Mayfest is an outdoor tribute to the arts and music that is a family-oriented event created to promote a broader knowledge of and appreciation for arts and humanities among serious, as well as casual, art lovers. Mayfest is held in the heart of beautiful downtown Tulsa and is nationally renowned for presenting the very best in arts and entertainment.
Tulsa International Mayfest has something to offer everyone. The outdoor area of Mayfest includes fine arts, crafts, three stages of performing artists, KidZone – a children’s hands-on art activity area, and of course, great festival food. In addition to the outdoor space, Mayfest also features multiple indoor galleries showcasing the artwork of area artists of all ages.
Mayfest includes three outdoor stages where performers have the opportunity to receive exposure and recognition from over 350,000 attendees during the four-day festival.
All performers are asked to apply online at www.sonicbids.com, where bands create an electronic press kit. Sonicbids is an online system that connects musicians and promoters. Over 60,000 gigs were booked last year on Sonicbids, with over 18,000 promoters using it, including SXSW Music, Lollapalooza and the Warped Tour.
Visual artists must turn in applications to participate in Mayfest by January 22, 2010.
Thanks to Sonicbids, the music lineup for the 2009 festival was one of the most diverse and of the highest quality Mayfest has experienced in recent years. Mayfest organizers are anticipating an even larger applicant pool for Mayfest 2010 and are excited to showcase these great musicians.
Organizers are also now seeking applications from artists and crafts people wishing to show at Mayfest. Many participating artists have seen record sales at Tulsa International Mayfest over the last three years, and the same is expected in 2010. Mayfest invites approximately 100 fine artists and 20 craftspeople to exhibit their work. Entries are professionally judged according to strict guidelines by a blind jury process.
In 2008, Mayfest joined other nationally known art shows in utilizing a free, one-stop universal online application system, www.zapplication.org. The number of applicants is rising, and with it, the competition for a space at Tulsa’s renowned festival of the arts.
The application deadline for performing artists is January 15, 2010, and the application fee is $10.00. For visual artists, the deadline for applications is January 22, 2010, and the application fee is $35.00.
