AUGUST 2018
For those who want fine home cooking in a unique town, Angie’s Circus Diner is for you! Beginning, almost twenty years ago, Randy & Angie Cooke started their southern cooking diner in Hugo, Oklahoma, aka, Circus City. They are well known for their southern comfort foods, meatloaf, fried catfish and chicken fried steaks. They serve daily specials everyday! Angie also serves mouthwatering cobblers, pies and cakes.
Circus City all began in 1937 when Al G. Kelly Miller Bros. Circus began spending the winters in Hugo. Vernon Pratt, a local Hugo businessman and one who loved the circus, went to Mena, Arkansas to talk to Obert Miller, the owner of the Al G. Kelly Miller Bros. Circus. He offered to house the circus in Hugo and Miller accepted his offer. That is when Circus City, USA was born.
Since that time there have been 22 different circuses that have lived in Circus City! Some of the more recent circuses have been Carson & Barnes, Kelly Miller and Culpepper & Merriweather.
The fine southern dining in a city rich with unique history, makes this diner one of our favorites! It is truly worth the drive!
The Made in Oklahoma Coalition, founded in the year 2000, is a group of 70+ Oklahoma food manufacturers, growers and producers dedicated to promoting brand awareness for Oklahoma made food and beverage products.
After over a decade of raising awareness for made in Oklahoma products, The MIO Coalition recognized that consumers in our state not only want to shop for local products at the grocery store, but they also want to support the Oklahoma restaurants that incorporate locally produced food and beverage items into their menu’s. Thus, in an effort to make this information more readily available to Oklahoma consumers the MIO Restaurant Program was born.
The Restaurant of the Month promotion was implemented to provide additional support and recognition to MIO restaurant members that go above and beyond the baseline requirements for membership by offering a robust selection of MIO products to their patrons. After each restaurant of the month is selected, a public voting process is implemented at the beginning of the next calendar year to determine who will be named MIO Restaurant of the Year. The winner of the MIO Restaurant of the Year campaign will receive a plaque of recognition, free advertising through MIO, a special feature on the MIO website and social media platforms as well as a $1,000 donation to the food bank of their choice.
