Some businesses have held their own amidst transformation, and J & J Pharmacy and Gifts is one of them.

Over the last 25 years, many things have changed on the section of Will Rogers Boulevard between the college and the railroad tracks. Claremore Junior College became Rogers State University, and many new businesses popped up to take the place of old ones. But some businesses have held their own amidst this transformation, and J & J Pharmacy and Gifts is one of them.

When Patsy Daniel and her husband John purchased the pharmacy from Humpty Stores, a grocery chain that left the Claremore area almost 25 years ago, they never dreamed it would become much more than a drug store. Their first step was to move into what had been a clothing store in Ne-Mar Shopping Center. Patsy recalls that she looked around their new location and thought, “What are we going to do with all this space?” They began by adding cards and a few gifts, and as they watched the surrounding area change, they made adjustments and changed with it.

Today, J & J has evolved into a full service pharmacy and a thriving gift boutique. Not only can a customer consult with a knowledgeable pharmacist about prescription medications, vitamins and health concerns, they can indulge in a bit of retail therapy as well.

The shop offers a charming selection of treasures to tuck under the Christmas tree, and each line is carefully chosen to be unique in our area. "We offer protected lines that are offered on a limited basis, so that our items are fresh and different than other stores." Vera Bradley, Aromatique and Lollia Luxury Body are some of the lines offered. For holiday home décor, you will want to check out all of their Christmas decorations, including popular Old World Christmas ornaments, Christopher Radko, and collectible fairies by Mark Roberts.

J & J offers a great selection of Christine Alexander clothing and accessories, famous for their embellishment with Swarovski crystal. “This line started with denim, but their latest craze is their sportswear,” Patsy says. “Their items are so comfortable and wash up wonderfully.” J & J also displays unique jewelry items to make you sparkle, everything from watches to reading glasses to the very fashionable handcrafted jewelry line from South African designer Ashleigh George. Another jewelry line worth perusing is the Waxing Poetic line, which includes items fashioned from sterling silver to look like vintage waxing stamps. “Many people have charm necklaces made from these to tell their own story,” Patsy relates.
