Beginning September 1, there will be a new pre-registration process for tagging vehicles in Oklahoma. All vehicles purchased at a dealership or through private sale will have two business days to pre-register with the state. If your vehicle is purchased from a dealer, the dealer will process the pre-registration. If your vehicle is purchased privately, either the buyer or the seller can submit the pre-registration.
You will receive two pre-registration decals in the mail. A metal license plate with the pre-registration decals must be attached to your vehicle within 10 days of the purchase. Once your pre-registration is complete, vehicle purchasers will still have two months from the date of vehicle purchase to complete the full registration by obtaining the vehicle title, paying sales and excise tax, and getting the receipt of registration.
The new pre-registration process does not apply to vehicles purchased before September 1, 2024.
