Hair stylist Natalie Rock is proud to support the Paul Mitchell family of products.
Long before Claremore native Natalie Rock ever graduated high school, she wanted to cut hair. But after high school, she did what she thought she ought to and enrolled in college.
“I attended college for two years,” she recounts, “but found I still dreamed of being a hair stylist.” So the next fall, instead of returning to the university, she attended vo-tech in Pryor and obtained her license to be a stylist. For three years, she worked at Cutters, until they shut their doors. In August of 2010, she joined the team at T & Co. on Blue Starr Drive in Claremore.
Natalie’s expert services include cuts, color, permanents, styling, up-dos and facial waxing. She stays current on the latest styles, reporting that angled bobs or long curled side bangs are the most requested styles, and popular fall hair colors include reds and rich browns.
Because coloring, styling, blow drying, using a flat iron, and swimming in chlorinated water all cause damage to hair, stripping it of its natural oils, Natalie has recently added another item to her list of services: Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Treatment.
“This treatment restores moisture and prevents color from fading,” Natalie says. “It is made from the keratin in sheep wool, which is very similar to the keratin that human hair is made of.” The keratin is mixed with the Hawaiian native Awapuhi ginger plant, long renowned for its ability to replenish moisture in both skin and hair. This treatment is reported to reduce hair breakage by up to 80 percent, improve shine up to 35 percent, and prevent color fade up to 67 percent. “So far, we are the only ones in the area offering this service,” says Natalie.
T & Co. is an exclusive Paul Mitchell salon, and Natalie is a big proponent of these products, not just because of their quality, but because of Paul Mitchell’s commitment to environmental responsibility and community service. For instance, the sheep whose wool is used for the keratin treatment are never mistreated in any way. No dye, hormone, or any other synthetic product is introduced to these animals. “Animal welfare is big with Paul Mitchell, and I like that,” says Natalie. “There is absolutely no testing on animals.”
Natalie also points to Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree line of products as an example of the company founder’s stand on the environment. “These products are carbon neutral,” she says. “That means the company plants enough trees to offset carbon emissions into the environment.” Paul Mitchell supports a huge range of philanthropic endeavors in a variety of areas like public service, education, the environment, the arts, special needs, animal welfare, and medical foundation. Amnesty International, American Red Cross, Global Green, Tropical Rainforest Fund, Grammy Museum, Special Olympics, The Dream Foundation, The Humane Society, Much Love Animal Rescue, Ace of Hearts Dog Rescue, The AIDS Ride, Make-A-Wish, and Locks of Love are just a sampling of the many benefits the Paul Mitchell Company supports every year. For this reason, Natalie is excited to be a part of an exclusive Paul Mitchell salon like T & Co. – and she is extremely glad to be working in her hometown.
