Are you ready for an unforgettable adventure this Fall Break? The Will Rogers Memorial Museum is hosting a unique event that promises fun, learning, and a dash of history. Introducing “Overnight at the Museum,” an activity-filled sleepover that offers children and their guardians a chance to explore the museum like never before.
Guest arrival kicks off on Friday, October 18, at 6 p.m. with a delicious supper from Ike’s Chili – a favorite of Will Rogers himself. From the moment you step in, the evening is packed with engaging activities. Imagine participating in Cowboy Games that whisk you back to the 19th century with sack races, candle making, and butter churning. It’s a hands-on experience that brings history to life, as Bryan Beard, the Education Coordinator, shares, “It teaches the kids what it was like in Will’s day. It’s a humbling and fun experience.
The evening doesn’t stop there. As night falls, enjoy the crisp evening air with a campfire, complete with s’mores and a cowboy sing-a-long. Gather around to watch “Night at the Museum” movies in the Will Rogers Theater, or participate in glow-in-the-dark activities and coloring stations. The museum’s children play area will also be open for exploration.
One of the event’s highlights is a special behind-the-scenes tour. Rachel O’Donnell, a key organizer, excitedly mentions, “Guests will have a guided tour inside Will Rogers’ tomb and see artifacts in our vault room, a special event since it is always closed to the public.” This exclusive access offers a rare glimpse into the life and times of the legendary Will Rogers.
Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite sleeping items like blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, and inflatable air mattresses. With plenty of outlets available, you can ensure a comfortable night’s sleep wherever you choose to set up camp within the museum.
The adventure wraps up the next morning with a hearty traditional cowboy breakfast featuring biscuits and gravy, bacon, eggs, and sausage. It’s a perfect way to end the event, leaving everyone with full stomachs and cherished memories.
This special event is designed for children aged 5-12, accompanied by one adult per family. With limited space available, registration is required. The cost is $45 per person or $35 for museum members, covering both adults and children. Be sure to sign up soon, as this unique experience is bound to fill up quickly.
