The holiday season is in full swing. The next month or so will be a busy one – you’re sure to have plenty of office parties, family get-togethers and other soirées on the agenda. With all the social interaction, as well as the photos popping up on Facebook and in family albums, you want to look your best, and quickly. When looking back at the pictures, you should be proud of how fresh, young and happy you look – not worn out from the holiday excitement.

At Advanced Cosmetic Medicine in Tulsa, Mallory Spoor-Baker, D.O., offers quick beauty fixes to get you ready for all the holiday hustle and bustle.

Do you have a serious problem with frown lines? You may feel the frown lines between your eyebrows make you look tired or unapproachable. The “11s” – those vertical lines that appear between your brows – result from muscle movement and the passage of time. When you concentrate, squint or frown, powerful muscles between the brows contract and draw the brows together, causing the skin to fold or furrow. As skin becomes less elastic with age, those folds or furrows result in stubborn lines. Because frown lines are dynamic lines caused by overactive muscles, they can usually be treated with tiny injections of Botox Cosmetic.

“Botox is one of our most popular treatments, especially during the holidays, when everyone has so many social gatherings and parties to attend,” says Dr. Spoor-Baker. “By injecting tiny amounts of Botox into a specific facial muscle, only the targeted impulse of that muscle will be blocked, causing a local relaxation and weakness. In this way, the muscle is immobilized, thus preventing those dreaded ‘wrinkly’ expressions.”

Millions of men and women of all skin colors and ethnicities have realized the benefits of being treated with Botox. Results are visible, but Botox will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” When administered by an experienced physician such as Dr. Spoor-Baker, you can still smile, frown, and look surprised without those lines between your brows.

Botox is a quick and minimally invasive procedure consisting of only a few tiny injections. Dr. Spoor-Baker will determine exactly where to administer these injections to achieve the best results for you. No anesthesia is required, and the entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. There is no downtime afterward; you may resume normal activity immediately. Discomfort is minimal and brief – most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite.

You can expect to see results within days after your treatment, and the appearance of the area between your brows may continue to improve for up to a week. The effects of Botox last approximately four to six months. “Botox is a perfect holiday fix to improve your appearance, as it is fast and effective, with minimal discomfort and no downtime,” says Dr. Spoor-Baker.

Laser procedures are also effective in beautifying your skin. “The laser that most dramatically changes pigment – red or brown – is Intense Pulse Light (IPL), also known as limelight,” Dr. Spoor-Baker explains. “IPL is a 560-nanometer light that primarily treats vascular and pigmented lesions. It is the ‘grandmother’ of all lasers that claim photorejuvenation, because we know that the impact of the heat produced by IPL means more collagen. More collagen results in better-looking skin.”

IPL technology uses the energy and heat of light to re-texturize and improve your skin. “With just a flash of light, we can markedly improve many common facial concerns safely and effectively, such as broken capillaries, benign brown pigment, age spots, and mottled pigmentation of the skin,” explains Dr. Spoor-Baker.

Photorejuvenation using IPL is a non-invasive treatment that treats skin damage without disruption of the skin’s surface, hence no downtime. Some problems may require a minimum of three treatments. You can choose to have a full face treatment, or treat specific skin problems, such as small facial veins, sun spots, age spots or neck vascularity.
