RenuYou Neurofeedback Center
When Dr. Barry and Cyndie Gardner opened RenuYou Neurofeedback Center in Tulsa in 2007, they envisioned a “life changing” place where individuals could get healing from PTSD, anxiety, depression and learning/processing disorders, without relying upon medication and its unpredictable side effects. Now celebrating ten years of operation, they’ve seen their dreams come to pass in the lives of their patients.
“We are passionate about what we do,” said Marie McCabe, LMFT, BCN. “We like to call it 'brain fitness'...we’ve seen so many lives changed through this. The brain can get stuck in a slow wave pattern, which causes attention deficits, or a fast pattern, which contributes to anxiety. Neurofeedback actually causes the brain to forge a new neuropathway.”
The Gardner’s successfully pioneered the first neurofeedback clinic in Oklahoma and are highly regarded as visionary leaders in research and development. RenuYou Neurofeedback Center is a B.C.I.A Board Certified facility and is staffed with physicians and licensed professional therapists and counselors.
Neurofeedback is a form of brain wave biofeedback, based on self operant conditioning, that helps people conquer brain dis-regulation issues. It is non-invasive, drug free, and considered to be one of the most advanced drug free therapies of this technological generation. It is said to successfully treat depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD and learning difficulties as well as help with peak performance in athletics, music or business.
RenuYou begins with a quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG)…a brain mapping that records electrical activity and coordination of the brain. Brain patterns are then interpreted by a doctor or qualified specialist to determine the protocol for change.
Once treatment begins, RenuYou uses “reward biofeedback” that features watching a movie or listening to music. As desirable patterns emerge, the continued playing of the movie or music reinforces them. When undesirable patterns emerge, the reward is taken away. As sessions progress, the goal of neurofeedback is to improve the brains’ ability to self-regulate and smoothly shift between states of relaxation and sustained focus. Since the brain controls attention and emotion, this ultimately encourages the brain to change thinking and behavior patterns and achieve peak performance.
“We can see noticeable improvements within the first few sessions,” said Lacey Ford, LSW.
RenuYou Neurofeedback Center is soon expanding to Oklahoma City because so many patients are driving long distances to get to the Tulsa location. The clinic also offers other services including: Organic Acids Testing, Metabolic Testing, Genetic Testing, Psychotherapy, Psychiatric Evaluations and Nutritional Counseling.
After almost a decade, the staff at RenuYou is still in awe of the power of healing through neurofeedback. Thousands of studies have been generated investigating brainwave activity, from daily functioning, to mood, memory, learning difficulties and autism spectrum disorder. Cyndie and her team ultimately believe that God is the great physician, and adhere to the scripture Jeremiah 29:11, "...the plans God has are to give us a hope and a purpose"
“Our mission statement is to empower people to be healthy, as God intended, beginning with a fully functional and optimal brain,” said staff psychiatrist, Dr. Stephanie Christner.
