The Rose District and City of Broken Arrow are excited to continue its partnership with AutismOklahoma to provide Sensory Sensitive Days in the Rose District. We have three events planned for this year, with the first coming up June 23. Meet some of your favorite princesses and superheroes for a story time and interact with real-life superheroes from the Broken Arrow Police and Fire Departments!
Partnering with AutismOklahoma to put on these events is just another step toward making the Rose District accessible for everyone. Assistant City Manager Norman Stephens, one of the key players behind starting these events, spoke on the purpose of starting these events: “Three years ago, members of the Tourism and Economic Development Team began looking for ways to create a holiday setting designed specifically for special needs children.” He continued “From this idea grew a relationship with AutismOklahoma. The city does not sponsor this event with the goal of causing cash registers to ring, but simply to foster a relationship with and allow a safe environment for this community to enjoy the Rose District.”
Vendors representing local businesses that specialize in working with the autism community will be present. If interested in participating in one of our events, please reach out to Crystal Frost with AutismOklahoma at eat0@eau0eav0eaw0.
Future events planned include a pumpkin painting party on Oct. 13 and a special meet and greet with Santa on Dec. 20.
