We have all done it. We browse through our favorite store, eyeing a new product that looks interesting, think about adding it to our basket, and then walk away without purchasing the item. What happened? This scenario comes as no surprise to Nut House owner Hazel Ward. She and her daughter Leslie have experienced it themselves, both as proprietors and shoppers. “The bottom line is that people are often afraid to spend money on an item that they just aren’t sure about,” explains Hazel. “That is where we got the idea to do a product tasting event.”

On Thursday, May 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., customers, guests and friends are all invited to stop by The Nut House, located at 26677 S. Hwy 66, in order to try a wide variety of new and delicious items during their first ever tasting event.

If you know The Nut House for their scrumptious sweets, you are only seeing a small portion of the picture. Sure, they still sell some of Oklahoma’s best homemade fudge in mouthwatering flavors like Mint Chocolate Swirl, Tiger Butter, Cappuccino, Amaretto, Chewy Praline and Maple Nut, but guests will marvel at the variety of other treats available to tempt your taste buds.

Gourmet barbecue seasonings, salad dressings, all-natural soup mixes, meat rubs and even garlic jelly are all items that will make mealtime more flavorful and interesting. The Wards will offer many of these as part of their choices during the tasting. Guests will feel as though they are being treated to some of the finest hor’dourves, beginning with samples of soups and salads, followed by a taste of one of the entrees prepared using products available through The Nut House.

The men attending won’t go away hungry either, states Hazel. She is excited to cook up a batch of some of the best barbecue in Oklahoma, a special recipe she makes with products from her store. A variety of flavored teas such as Cranapple Rose or Orange Dream will be served, and don’t forget to save room for dessert. Gourmet-flavored coffee alongside a piece of chocolate cake filled with Banana Rum Pineapple Jam covered in cream cheese frosting is sure to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth. Yum!

“We are very excited to host this tasting,” says Hazel. “Now when people come in, if there is something they haven’t tried yet, they can sample it. And if they like it, they can buy it!”

If you haven’t stopped by The Nut House lately, they have expanded their food selection to include gourmet and nutritious items too. “We like the idea of offering our customers things that are easy, good for them, and don’t take a lot of time to prepare,” says Hazel. “We are proud that the lines we carry are unique – things that you won’t find at the grocery store.” She is hoping to have a new line of cheeses from a small dairy farm in Utah before the tasting occurs. They are white cheeses surrounded with coffee or sea salt. “Everyone we talk to is excited about those two items!”

Food at the tasting will be served until it is gone, so don’t delay. Hazel is expecting a large turnout for her first ever tasting. Along with the great food, customers will see lots of store specials guaranteed to entice them into purchasing several new products to take home.

The Nut House is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and now offers an event room available to rent. “The room is very popular for wedding receptions and graduation parties,” says Hazel.
