Music, Music, Music in Grove OK for Labor Day Festival The 2021 JANA JAE FIDDLE CAMP & MUSIC FEST is Labor Day Weekend— September 3, 4 & 5, 2021. This event is held on beautiful Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees, at Snider’s Camp, and the Grove Civic Center, 18th & Main, Grove, OK. Being on Grand Lake itself is worth the visit. With added sharing and learning for all string instruments, in a safe setting, what’s not to like? This is a great opportunity to learn to play your favorite instrument from qualified instructors. And it’s fun for all! All CDC guidelines are met at the Civic Center and throughout the weekend, with temperatures taken at the Civic Center door, masks available and social distancing encouraged for a safe and secure environment. Participants can register online at www.grandlakefestivals.com or by calling 918-786-8896 Friday, Sept. 3, the Festival opens at 6:30 p.m. with a kickoff party at Snider's Camp, located 1 mile S and ½ mile E of Honey Creek Bridge in Grove. Stellar entertainment features World Champion Bones Player, Barry Patton of Winfield KS, Festival Fiddlers, Prairie Breeze String Band, Jana Jae and Friends, Contraband, and popular vocalist Clint Walker. A delicious barbecue dinner is served for $10/plate. Spectators are invited to bring lawn chairs and enjoy Friday and Saturday lakeside evenings of entertainment free of charge. Saturday evening, Sept. 4, again free to the public, held lakeside at Snider's Camp featuring Chef Dr. John’s fish fry dinner, and entertainment by Possum Trot Bluegrass Band, new to the Festival this year! Possum Trot is a top-notch group from the Ozark hills that has been delivering their brand of dynamic bluegrass to audiences throughout the Midwest and beyond for almost 45 years. They are an award-winning band known for their unique song arrangements, original material, tight harmonies and family-friendly entertainment captivating old and new fans!! Also entertaining will be Jana Jae & Friends, Barry Patton, Clint Walker, Contraband. Participant solo and group stage performances offer onstage opportunity to ‘show their stuff’ for Amazing Amateur Night, critiqued with individual written comments by Jana Jae. For daytime events Sept 4 and 5, the air-conditioned, spacious Grove Civic Center is the place to be for workshops and master classes. It’s not just for fiddles! All ages, all levels, and all acoustic instruments are welcome! Fiddle, violin, viola, cello, mandolin, guitar, bass, ukulele and other string and rhythm instruments are included. Scholarship recipients and Instrument Recipients donated by AFT-ID and various luthiers will be recognized. Jim Garling, Jack Boydstun and Jim Christian will teach guitar the entire weekend. Other workshop groups will include ukulele by Russ Weeks & Jenelle Sisco, mandolin by Russ Weeks and Jim Christian, rhythm bones by Barry Patton, spoons by Shirley Adams, djembe drums by David Karnes, string arranging by Dennis Neff, and more! It's an inspiring weekend filled with tips for better playing and help with individual questions. The Museum Broken Arrow will host its annual Pioneer Dinner on Saturday, September 4th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Broken Arrow High School, 1901 E. Albany St., in Broken Arrow. The Pioneer Dinner celebrates the rich history of Broken Arrow and provides longtime residents & BA grads an opportunity to catch up with old friends and reminisce about the good old days. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and a homemade pie auction will also be a part of the festivities. “The Pioneer Dinner is held each year during the historical Rooster Days festival in Broken Arrow, known for being the longest running festival in the state of Oklahoma. We cannot wait to celebrate this historic annual event,” said Julie Brown, The Museum Broken Arrow’s Executive Director. Tickets for the Pioneer Dinner are available for purchase at The Museum Broken Arrow. Advance admission is $10 for Museum members and $15 for non-members. Main Street Bash Festival and Car Show is a new event featuring classic cars, food trucks, a kids zone, fun and more located on Main Street Jenks. This daytime event will celebrate Downtown Jenks and the end of summer on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tulsa Chevy Classics will award trophies and cash prizes to the top three cars in each class, including best of show, best paint, best interior and best engine.
