Linda Boles of the Bixby Commuity Center and Celia Wetherill, activites director, display the beautiful quilt that will be given to the winner of a fundraising raffle by the Pins and Needles Quilting Club during the Arts & Crafts Show.

One of the longest running local crafts shows happens right here in Bixby, Oklahoma. The Bixby Community Center is holding its annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Show, a much-anticipated event since 1986, on December 6.

“The Arts & Crafts show is a super opportunity for people to come out and finish their holiday shopping – or to just treat themselves,” says Linda Boles of the Bixby Community Center.

Shoppers will enjoy browsing an array of items, most of which are handcrafted and homemade. Even though the show is held during the holidays, shoppers will find items appropriate for any season and theme. A fine selection of jewelry, art, antiques, wood crafts, home décor, fabrics, baskets, stained glass, candles, furniture and much more will be available. Also included in the show are a few commercial lines, such as Avon and The Pampered Chef. As an added bonus, periodic door prize drawings will be held throughout the day. The prizes will be items donated by the various exhibitors.

“People who attend craft shows come to see new ideas and appreciate the individual artists, especially when everything is so reasonably priced,” says Boles.  “Individuals are also apt to find things that can’t be found at the malls or chain retail stores.”

Ken Rankin of Broken Arrow will return to this year’s Arts & Crafts Show with his wood pieces and other crafts.

Proceeds from the show will benefit the Bixby Community Center in support of the many activities the center hosts. Among these are the Father-Daughter Autumn Dance held in October, as well as Mummy and Me, a mother and son dance held close to Halloween. The Bixby Community Center also has special events for Easter and Christmas, with opportunities for the kids to enjoy all the fun that surrounds the holidays.

Crafters interested in participating in the Bixby Community Center Arts & Crafts show should pre-register by November 21, 2008 in order to guarantee a space. It is still possible to take part in the show after that date if space is available, but booth rental costs are slightly higher after the pre-register deadline. The show is a wonderful prospect for artisans of all levels to display their creations and wares, and many are repeat exhibitors with repeat customers. Individuals who are friendly and knowledgeable always man the exhibitor booths.

The Arts & Crafts show will be held at the Bixby Community Center on December 6 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Exhibitor booths may be set up the afternoon of the 5th or from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the 6th.  The center is located at 211 N. Cabaniss in Bixby.  For more information, call (918) 366-4841.
