It wouldn’t be the holidays without the “spirits” of the season, and Kwenchers Liquor Store in Owasso has exactly what you are looking for to make your celebrations brighter. With over 11,000 square feet of store space, finding the right libation for the occasion is more fun than you can imagine!
Owner, Jason Hower, opened the Owasso store in 2014, with a passion for the history of wine and spirits. His quest for knowledge about wine, beer, and spirits makes him an expert on the subject, and he is eager to share his wisdom with his customers. “It’s easy to remember the details if you’re interested in them,” said Jason. “Many people don’t realize that wine and spirits are really more about the agriculture than anything. When I’ve visited wineries around the country, it’s pick-up trucks, blue jeans, and boots. There are farmers and hard work behind those labels.” He also prides himself on keeping his staff well trained. The backs of the shirts his staff wears read, “My boss makes me drink.”
The Kwenchers logo bears the image of a tugboat. Jason’s philosophy is to make sure that every customer finds in the store exactly what they are looking for. “A tugboat helps something to get to where it’s going,” said Jason, “and we have a sea of options to choose from.” This concept has helped to develop personal relationships with their customers. When customers ask for a good bottle of wine, Jason says, “We aren’t in the business of telling you what’s good or bad; it’s all about personal preference. We focus on what things taste like. We will ask some questions about what our customers like, or what flavor of food they like,” he said.
With the state’s new liquor laws in place, Jason is proud to still have a great deal more to offer than grocery stores. The selection at Kwenchers includes over 2700 different kinds of wine, over 1000 beers, and the equivalent in spirits. The store’s top seller is a “Build-your-own six-pack,” with close to 400 types of beers included for selection. “You could come to the store every day for a year and have a different beer every day!” said Jason. In November, the store added a walk-in cooler, with shelves stocked with ice cold beer. Additionally, customers will find the Supermarket Matched Price offer, unlike anywhere else. “We will match the price to the penny,” said Jason.
Kwencher’s coolers are stocked with over 1000 different kinds of beer.
A unique collection of MIO (Made in Oklahoma) selections of snacks and non-alcohol products can also be found in the store. Some of the selection includes Rhino pretzels (Dill Pickle is the most popular!), Trader Dave’s Gourmet Treats, and others in a growing assortment. These items can be included in gift baskets combined with wine and spirits, carefully prepared onsite for holiday gifts. Premium gift-wrapping services will also be available for the season.
