Spring is a great time of year to take up new hobbies. With the nicer weather and flowers blooming, gardening is a seasonal favorite, especially in Tulsa. Whether you’re an experienced gardener looking for some new tricks or starting completely new in this refreshing pastime, be sure to check out these different events happening in April at the Tulsa Garden Center.

Volunteer Days in the

Tulsa Municipal Rose Garden

Because of another mild winter and early spring, some help is needed putting the Rose Garden in tip-top shape. Volunteers are asked to bring their friends, some gloves and their favorite weeding tools and meet in the north end of the Garden Center parking lot. It’s a great chance to do a good deed, have fun, and make new friends. The Tulsa Garden Center will supply snacks and all the water you can drink.

The Rose Garden Volunteer dates for 2017 are the 3rd Saturday of each month, April through October, from 7:00am – 10:00am. The Tulsa Municipal Rose Garden looks forward to seeing you on April 15^th.

Cool Season and Warm Season Vegetables

The Linnaeus Teaching Garden of the Tulsa Garden Center announces a special lecture on growing vegetables, both cool season and warm season.

This lecture will be presented on Saturday, April 15th, at 10:00am by Josh Kirschenbaum, the Vegetable Account Manager for horticulture industry giant PanAmerican Seed Company, a division of Ball Horticulture Company based in Chicago, Illinois. He is a great speaker who enjoys sharing his wealth of timely, research-based information with the gardening public.

Bees in the City – What’s the Buzz?

Urban beekeepers from the Northeast Oklahoma Beekeepers Association will give the lowdown on how to keep bees in the city. They’ll share the facts and dispel the myths. If you’re ready to start your own Apiary or just curious about bees, this lecture will give you good practical advice and information. This lecture will be held on Tuesday, April 18th, 2017, at 6:30pm. Admission to this lecture is free to TGC members, $5 for non-members. Reservations are required.

Master Your Grill

presented by the Tulsa Garden Center and Hasty Bake

Beginner and advanced classes on backyard grilling are being offered by Tulsa Garden Center and Hasty Bake. The first class is scheduled for April 27th, 2017 at 5:30pm.

The first class will be “Garden to Table” featuring Portobello Mushroom steaks with blue cheese, fresh grilled vegetables and a grilling salad. Guests will be served the food that was prepared accompanied by complimentary beer and wine.
