Rex Marsh, owner of Harmony Star Marble, stands next to a piece of high-quality granite.
If it seems as if most companies these days fall into the “here today, gone tomorrow” category, you would be right. Many begin with the best of intentions, but soon realize how difficult it really is to keep a business afloat. They could take a few lessons from a company that has been successful in keeping their doors open for the past 6 years, Harmony Star Marble. Owner Rex Marsh has been in the marble and granite business for 32 years.
Rex says that his secret for success is simply listening to his customers, doing his best to fulfill their needs, and delivering a quality job with integrity. That’s the cornerstone of Harmony Star Marble and a promise from the owner.
With most homeowners choosing to remodel instead of moving, Rex finds himself busier than ever. “The trend right now is definitely towards remodeling,” Rex explains. “And now is the perfect time. Granite prices are down and people can give their entire kitchen or bathroom a completely new look at a fraction of the cost. Low interest rates are helping homeowners refinance now too, and many are adding in some extra towards updating their homes. It is just the right time for homeowners to upgrade.”
The first step is to decide on a budget you want to stay within, then give Rex a call. He will schedule a time to come by and give you a free measure-up and estimate. This allows homeowners the ability to visit his showroom with an exact idea of how much material is needed and know what the job will cost in relation to what works best for them.
Rex offers all of the hottest trends in materials and in finishing methods. “Granite is certainly the most popular natural material we sell,” he states. “It is hard to beat for beauty and durability. Combine that with the low costs right now, and most customers are choosing to use granite.” He also adds that granite is the hardest surface out there other than diamonds, so you can rest assured that your surface will stand up to the toughest of households.
Customers can expect a seven to ten day turnaround time on their jobs, so your dream kitchen can be yours in as little as two weeks. There is no need to be intimidated by the process – Rex and his team make it easy. Once the area has been measured, the customer will visit either the Harmony Star Marble showroom, located just east of Claremore on Highway 20, or they can go by Pacific Shore Stones, located at 11401 E. 27th St. N. in Tulsa. Here customers can view a variety of materials and products. “They can choose from many different grades including medium and high quality or even builders grade. We want them to get a product that is not only beautiful, but fits their budget.”
Granite prices vary depending on the color, the quality, and the scarcity of the product. Another factor to the price is the edge used on the granite. They specialize in bull nose, pencil raw edge and chipped edge, just to name a few. And most of the finish work is done the old-fashioned way – by hand. But the most important part of this process, Rex explains, is that customers know up front the complete cost of their project. “My clients are treated extremely well,” Rex says. “I’ve always found that being upfront and honest works best for me.”
One way Rex ensures a quality job is that all work is done by Harmony Star Marble employees. He never uses sub-contractors, and this helps him keep the quality of his work at the highest level.
