“We wanted to provide an opportunity for girls and their dads, or special male family members, to connect—an evening out with lots of pampering, no electronics, “ explains Herb McSpadden, Executive Director for Rogers County Youth Services (RCYS), “the ‘Me and My Guy Dance’ does just that!” The event, now in its eleventh year in Claremore, has grown substantially in popularity and attendance since its inception. So much so, in fact, that the venue has been changed from its original location. “RSU and Sodexo have been so generous to partner with us in donating the facilities and staffing for this event, and we are so grateful, “ McSpadden adds. RCYS is looking to add a second session next year.
This year, the theme for the event is “Mad Hatter’s Ball”, and the ballroom will be transformed into a magical wonderland. Everything from teacup centerpieces to a full candy bar will be onsite (with no peering ‘mom eyes’ to monitor the delectable intake). Girls of all ages are invited to come alongside a special male family member—a dad, grandfather, uncle—and dance the night away to tunes sure to suit all tastes and ages.
As for the dress code, guests can arrive in a limo or bring the pickup truck, wear formal attire or Sunday best, from tuxedos to boots and jeans—the idea is to dress up and show up for an evening out. “The father-daughter bond is so important, and this is a chance to spend some time together, so we want everyone to be comfortable,” states McSpadden.
RCYS also needs corporate sponsorships for the dance which are available at varying levels. The donations are tax-deductible, of course, and contributors will receive public recognition. The proceeds from ticket sales as well as individual or corporate sponsorships go to serve a very important cause. RCYS operates a 6 bed emergency youth shelter for adolescents, ages 6 to 18,that have been removed from the home due to negligence, abuse or delinquency. The adolescents, while awaiting placement, receive 24 hour care, including: meals; clothing and necessities like winter coats and gloves; transportation to and from school and school supplies; support and transportation for extracurricular activities; gifts if they are in residence during the holidays or their birthdays, etc. The shelter, essentially, serves as the home away from home while the youth are in transition, thus RCYS requires a great deal of financial support to provide the necessities and normalcy to the kids in the shelter.
Don your best attire, grab your ‘date’ and head to the “Mad Hatter’s Ball” this year for a fabulous evening supporting a great cause!
