The $145 Million Marriage Proposal

...and other proposal ideas

By: Tammy Laakso | Category: In Our Communities | Issue: August 2018

AUGUST 2018

Starting in 2022 it will be possible to ask for the beloved’s hand in marriage while flying over the lunar surface to the sound of Franck Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon”. The one-week interplanetary flight will be carried out using a self-contained and autonomous spacecraft allowing the two lovers to travel alone.

The ApoteoSurprise agency (ProposeinParis.com), a French marriage proposal planner specialized in creating extravagant proposals, introduces a whole new service for 145 million dollars which will allow 21st century handsome princes to propose to their beloved while flying around the Moon. Reaching for the Moon in the name of love is about to become a reality, the ultimate goal of the Paris-based agency being to “stage the craziest and most outstanding marriage proposal of the last 13.8 billion years“.

From March 2022, elite lovers will be able to book the all-included service on the site www.proposeinparis.com and five months later find themselves enjoying the following program:

  • Twelve weeks of pre-requisite technical and physical training.
  • Takeoff on D-Day from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
  • Richard Strauss’s “Thus spoke Zarathustra, Op.30” (Theme from 2001 Space Odyssey) resounding in the two space tourists’ helmets when the first effects of weightlessness are felt.
  • Arrival in lunar orbit, three days later, flying over the satellite’s grayish surface at only 200/300 kilometers altitude.
  • Cut-off of all communication with Earth for around thirty minutes while the capsule flies over the dark side of the Moon.
  • The Frank Sinatra song “Fly Me to the Moon” played halfway through the orbital flight, allowing the suitor to make his marriage proposal far from any form of human life (engagement ring secretly hidden in his spacesuit).
  • A spectacular Earth-rise seen from behind the lunar craters and return trip of nearly four days before atmospheric re-entry and final touchdown.

The flight-plan followed by the space capsule will mirror that of the mythical Apollo 8 mission in 1968. The spacecraft, traveling at a speed of up to 38,000 km/h, will be equipped with eight cameras allowing the couple to immortalize their entry into the history of the conquest of space and the conquest… of love!

Will there really be a $145,000,000.00 marriage proposal?  The answer to that amazing question is yet to be known.  Here are a few more ways to profess your love with creativity and passion:

PICTURE THIS

Fill a favorite room in your home with photo memories from your relationship; you can hang them from balloons or cover the walls with them for a jaw-dropping surprise. Last picture is you holding a ring with the words, “Will You Marry Me”.

CANDLE LIGHT AND ROSES

Turn off all the lights in your apartment and make a trail of candles that leads to a circle of votive positioned around the ring.

FITTING TOGETHER

Have a custom jigsaw puzzle made with your picture and the words “Marry me?” On a rainy day, suggest this activity, and when you’ve finished enough that you can clearly see the photo and read the words, it’s time to propose! (Hint: This works well with Scrabble too.)

PHOTO SHOOT

Hire a photographer to capture your proposal, but tell your partner you’ve won a romantic couple’s photo shoot. Get dressed up and then propose mid-shoot, and follow it up with a romantic engagement shoot.

ROMANCE IN BLOOM

Take your love to a flower or botanical garden when everything is in bloom. While surrounded by the beauty go down on one knee and ask those precious words, “Will You Marry Me”.

PICNIC SURPRISE

Have a friend or family member set up a picnic—complete with wine and cheese, of course—for you in a park. Then come up with an excuse for taking a hike where you’ll stumble upon this surprise proposal picnic.

FAMILY CELEBRATION

Have your proposal in a park, with friends and family a safe distance away. Once you’ve proposed, have everyone show up for an impromptu celebration.

MOVIE TIME

Create your OWN movie trailer and then have a local theater play it… with your love in the audience along with family and friends.

TREASURE

For those that are geocaching enthusiasts, the ring could be “buried” and the proposal could be set to find the treasure.

HUNT

Send your love on a scavenger hunt. Start with a clue at home, then send out on a tour of your favorite spots all over town. As the last hint is reached, the prize will be you on one knee. Take the scavenger hunt high-tech: Send your love a text message leading to a secret spot. Keep the hunt going with text messages of sweet nothings along the way (and directions, of course) as you lead her to you, on bended knee.

HOT AIR BALLOON

Nothing spells romantic like soaring in the clouds above and dropping down on one knee to propose to the one you love. A hot air balloon ride is a timeless romantic move that will leave your one true love in awe of you.
