What is “Leadership”? Leadership is hard to define. It can mean different things to different people. Leadership can be expressed in a moment of choice when we decide to act rather than staying passive. Leadership can be setting an example for others or taking personal action. Most of all, leadership is about harnessing the resources of a community for a common good.

Leaders are a community’s most vital asset. For more than thirty years, Leadership Tulsa has made it our mission to identify and develop diverse leaders who impact the community through service. How do we do that? By using the community as a classroom, engaging emerging and established leaders in conversation about pressing issues, and introducing training in leadership and board service, we provide resources and support so that every member has the opportunity to learn, experience and serve!

You have to want to be a part of Leadership Tulsa. Our selection process assures the identification of those who are most likely to use their leadership for the long-term benefit of the community. In addition to desire and commitment, we also seek individuals that represent the wonderful diversity of the Tulsa community. From now until April, we are accepting applications for our two most popular programs.

Leadership Tulsa Class 38 (for adults) - Serving adults of any age, this exciting nine-month leadership development program provides participants with the knowledge and skills to make a significant difference in their community. The program launches with an evening orientation and a fun-filled, information-packed weekend retreat in August 2007, followed by eight dynamic monthly seminars with guest speakers focusing on various opportunities for service and leadership in our community. Meet people from every sector of the community and learn more about Arts, Education, City Government, Social Services and more! Deadline to apply is April 30, 2007.

Youth Leadership Tulsa Class 12 - Serving students who will be entering their sophomore and junior year this fall, this vibrant, school-year program equips participants with strong leadership skills, a practical understanding of philanthropy and volunteerism as well as provides exciting opportunities to participate in service-learning projects. Meet participants from high schools throughout all of Tulsa County and learn about the vital importance of leadership in a fun and creatively challenging environment. The program launches with an evening orientation in September 2007, followed by eight dynamic monthly seminars focusing on various opportunities for service and leadership in our community. Deadline to apply is April 16, 2007.

When a person completes the program, they will be joining a distinguished group of more than 1600 Leadership Tulsa members – many of whom hold prominent public leadership roles and many others who serve their community every day as board members or volunteers.

Leadership Tulsa provides a direct and hands-on way for individuals to become active participants within their community, and to become effective leaders in the areas in which they are most concerned. Many eligible candidates might not think to apply unless they are informed of the opportunity and personally encouraged to apply.
