Monta Ewing, 2025 president
Introducing the Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club Officers for 2025, President, Monta Ewing, Vice-President Dr. Tamara Hall, Secretary Joanna Wilson, and Treasurer Suanne Crockett.
The Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club comprised of five generations of Cherokee women that evolved out of the female seminaries of higher education. These Cherokee women have kept the importance of education at the forefront, as well as the Cherokee history and culture in the spotlight of the world, as we have been ever evolving through the many adversities of our changing world as we move into the future.
With a new year beginning, we are planning and preparing for upcoming events, that are open to the public, such as the “Old Fashion Picnic” in May, the “Hats off to Will” Will Rogers Days in November, birthday tribute and the Wreath Laying Ceremony at Will Rogers Memorial Museum in November, and the other social and cultural events that we promote and participate in, throughout the year. Thank you to the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts and to the many individuals who support, encourage, and help us achieve our scholarship goals and bring cultural awareness to our community.
The next event scheduled for the Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club is “Wild Onion Feast”, which will be heldMarch 15, 2025 - 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Claremore First Methodist Church, 1615 N. Hwy 88, Claremore, OK 74017. This is event is a community favorite and will feature a Live and Silent Auction and serve as a IWPC Higher Education Scholarship Fundraiser.
