Local Mexican food lovers have been savoring the delicious entrées, desserts and drinks at Tijuana’s Grill & Cantina, located at 7945 S. Memorial in Tulsa, for over four years. In September, co-owners and brothers Francisco and Gerardo Barbosa opened a new location at 146th and Memorial in Bixby. “Many of our customers would drive from Bixby and tell us we needed to open a restaurant there, so we did,” says Gerardo. “We offer Bixby residents a combination of Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican dishes that were not available in town before.”
Gerardo and Francisco worked in their family restaurant in Mexico and then moved to Tulsa, where they worked in local Mexican restaurants for over 20 years before opening Tijuana’s. Along with cook Miguel Ramos, they serve up delicious Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican dishes. “Many people in Oklahoma prefer Tex-Mex, and we have several of those options, but a lot of people love the authentic Mexican food we serve,” says Gerardo. Everything is made from scratch, including all entrées, salsas, queso and flan.
The menu includes seafood dishes, appetizers such as nachos, tostadas, salads, tortilla soup, quesadillas, enchiladas, tamales, tacos, fajitas, burritos and much more. “Our most popular dish is the spicy tacos guajillos, made just like in Mexico. It is five corn tortillas filled with chicken breast sautéed in guajillo sauce and topped with jack cheese, cilantro and pico de gallo,” says Francisco. “Chile rellenos are also a really popular choice.” Kids meals are available, and the dessert menu includes Mexican flan, fried ice cream, sopapillas, apple sopapillas, and chocolate chimis.
The restaurant atmospheres are clean, comfortable and cozy, with adobe-colored walls and bright décor. The Bixby location has an outdoor patio for those warmer nights made for sitting outside enjoying a wonderful meal and margarita.
For many, a Tex-Mex or Mexican meal simply isn’t complete without a tasty margarita, and Tijuana’s serves up a variety of flavors made just right. They have a full bar for any other drinks you’re craving as well.
Tijuana’s offers specials several days a week. For example, one day they may offer an enchilada special, and on another kids eat free with a paid adult. Give them a call to find out more about their daily specials. Every day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can enjoy their lunch buffet special – all you can eat enchiladas, tacos, burritos, tostadas, rice and beans, along with an iced tea.
Tijuana’s Grill & Cantina is located at 14633 S. Memorial in Bixby, and at 7945 S. Memorial in Tulsa. They are open every day. They also offer catering services. For more info, visit www.tijuanasgrill.com.
