You’ll see dozens of classic cars at Bixby’s 7th annual Classic Car Show and Gospel Sing.
Bixby’s Classic Car Show and Gospel Sing, now in its seventh year, is Sunday, June 7 at First United Methodist Church. This free event is a great opportunity to go on a fun family outing, see dozens of classic cars and hear some great gospel music.
Lucinda and Ron Casteel, members of First United Methodist, started the car show seven years ago. “Ron has a ’56 Chevy and a ’67 Firebird, and he used to go to car shows all the time,” says Lucinda. “We wanted to do one that would bring the Bixby community together. Bixby does so much for the community, and is a big classic car show town. The people here really like to show off their cars. So the idea was developed to have a classic car show at the church, and also to have gospel groups come in and sing. And our event has gotten larger and larger each year.”
This event has something for everyone. “This is a great family outing on a Sunday afternoon. It’s free to come and look at the cars, and it doesn’t take a lot of gas to get here,” says Lucinda. “We’ll have arts and crafts, with a lot of variety this year, including jewelry, candle-making, cosmetics, woodworking and ironwork booths. We have a ton of things for the kids – a play area, a Jupiter Jump, face painting, a water slide (weather permitting), and the fire department comes with a fire truck for the kids to look at and climb on. We’ll also have a first aid station with nurses attending it.”
Dozens of restored, antique and classic cars will be lined up in front of the church for your viewing pleasure. “The cars will start arriving around 9 a.m., and the show and the gospel music will get started at noon,” says Lucinda. The music will be live inside the church gymnasium and will be broadcast outside. Food will be available for purchase, or you can bring your own lunch and have a picnic on the grounds.
Come out to First United Methodist Church on June 7 and enjoy seeing some sweet rides.
“We do this car show the first Sunday in June every year,” says Lucinda. “We sent out invitations to car enthusiasts all over the state to register with us, including car clubs and people who have displayed with us in previous years. It’s really popular.” Awards and trophies are given out for various categories, including crowd favorite. A $15 donation is requested to register your car for the show.
This event will feature upward of 20 gospel singers and groups in a variety of styles. “We have some local talent, some church talent, and a few surprise artists,” says Lucinda. “And we’ll have southern gospel and bluegrass, so there will be something for everyone.”
The seventh annual Classic Car Show and Gospel Sing begins at noon on Sunday, June 7 at First United Methodist Church, 15502 S. Memorial in Bixby, and runs until around 4 p.m. It is free to attend. “The car show starts right after church,” says Lucinda. “Feel free to come and attend church with us before the event.” For more information on the car show and gospel performances, call Lucinda Casteel at (918) 369-5993.
