Joel and Kendra Wiland, owners of J. David Jewelry in Broken Arrow.
If you are looking for a unique, quality gift of timeless value this holiday, be sure to visit J. David Jewelry in Broken Arrow. Whether you are interested in the latest trends in jewelry or the creation of a one-of-a-kind piece, you are sure to find something for even the most hard-to-buy-for person on your list.
Frank Tremonti, custom designer at J. David Jewelry, reports that the latest trend in jewelry is a turn back to yellow gold. “With gold prices going through the roof, yellow gold seems to represent a little bit of luxury,” says Frank. “A similar trend happened in the 1980s.” There are also changes in the desired look and size of diamonds, and people are once again buying diamond stud earrings. “The previous trend was toward the small pave diamonds,” Frank notes. “Now a larger diamond look is more popular.”
Diamonds are J. David Jewelry’s specialty. Store owners Joel and Kendra Wiland travel twice a year to Antwerp, Belgium, where as members of the Independent Jewelers Organization, they are allowed to pick from some of the world’s best diamonds. Frank uses this analogy to describe how important this privilege is for Joel and Kendra: “Take tomatoes for instance. Most people have to buy their tomatoes from the supermarket. But it is as if Joel and Kendra get to go right to the farm and pick the prettiest, juiciest tomatoes straight from the farmer.” He smiles and adds, “Except in this case we are talking about diamonds.”
One of the biggest trends right now among jewelry buying clientele is a desire for heirloom, generational pieces of unique design. Frank uses CAD (Computer Aided Design) to create completely unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, using both old and new materials if the client desires. One particular customer ordered a ring with his name engraved on the band and his ranch brand on the top using diamonds from a previous ring. Another client ordered a ring combining the metals and gemstones from her grandmother’s ring, mother’s ring, and her own existing ring. “When it is finished, she will be wearing a ring with three generations of her family in it,” Frank points out. “It keeps the style current while still making a beautiful representation of her mother and grandmother, all in one ring.”
For most people, the hardest person to buy for on their list is usually male. For that guy on your list, you might consider visiting J. David and checking out their William Henry pocket knife collection. “This is perfect for a lady looking for an ultra nice gift for her husband, which is why Joel and Kendra decided to carry this collection,” Frank notes. “They thought, ‘What can we carry that a guy would treasure and pass down to his sons? They decided these pocket knives would be perfect.” The William Henry company is highly reputed for quality, taking seven to eight months to craft a knife that can either be carried in the pocket or displayed proudly on the mantle. Wouldn’t that make a perfect package under any Christmas tree?
Joel and Kendra founded J. David Jewelry at its present location in 1994, and Joel reports they are still thrilled to be a part of the Broken Arrow landscape. “We love the fact that people can come to Broken Arrow and get everything in one spot while avoiding heavy traffic.” For unhurried, personalized service as you look for that perfect jewelry selection for a loved one or for yourself, be sure to visit J.
