Transforming Dull into Decorative

Concrete isn’t just concrete any more.

By: Deanna Rebro | Category: Home Improvement | Issue: May 2009

Jason Lee, owner of Hawkeye Custom Concrete, can transform a dull gray concrete floor into a decorative work of art like this color board.

Concrete isn’t just concrete any more. Jason Lee at Hawkeye Custom Concrete, 212 E. Broadway in Sand Springs, is a master at transforming dull gray concrete slabs into dramatic showpieces.

Traditionally, interior concrete slabs are covered with carpet, hardwood flooring or tile. After a while, kids and pets produce wear patterns in carpet, or appliances malfunction and ruin the flooring. Then the cycle begins again.

Hawkeye Custom Concrete offers an alternative. Since opening the business in 2002, Jason and his team have created decorative floors in kitchens, baths, family rooms, sunrooms, entryways, garages and workshops. Outside, they have worked on sidewalks, patios, driveways, pool decks and complete outdoor living areas.

“The whole idea of custom concrete flooring is still an emerging idea in this area,” says Jason. “But people love it when they see it.”

Whether acid-stained or scored and stamped concrete, you can get the permanent and realistic look and feel of marble, stone, slate and various tile styles on your concrete floor. Each floor is customized to your lifestyle and budget.

Jason comes to your home with color boards so that you can select just the right design, pattern, color or border. He’ll go over every detail of the flooring and point you in the direction that will get you what you want. Colors can be adjusted along the way, until the final sealer is applied. “The homeowner drives the experience from start to finish,” explains Jason.

All the professional craftsmen at Hawkeye are certified in their trade. Jason personally inspects each job. They use the highest grade products, including “green” products whenever possible, so you don’t have to spend money on expensive cleaning supplies later on. The permanent sealer dries and is ready for furniture within 24 hours.

Custom concrete flooring makes all-around good sense. Many people only see it in magazines as it is featured in premier homes. The cost is actually very affordable – much more affordable than a lot of tile. The floors are permanently sealed and require virtually no maintenance. Even the grout does not need to be cleaned again. The floors are water and spill resistant, including wine. And since they don’t hold dust, they’re allergen free. Under normal wear, a custom concrete floor will never require resealing.

The concrete floor experts at Hawkeye have produced custom floors for residential, commercial and industrial projects in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Jenks, Owasso, Sand Springs and throughout northeast Oklahoma. Their work is in offices, restaurants and other high-traffic commercial establishments. They also seal floors in warehouses and large industrial garages where oil spills commonly occur.

Jason showcases his new work and any new techniques in a monthly newsletter that he offers to clients, designers and architects. He also welcomes customers to visit the showroom, where he displays samples and a gallery of before-and-after pictures of his projects.

If you’re thinking of making a change to your concrete flooring, why not consider one that is beautiful, cost-effective and easy to care for? Give Jason a call any time at (918) 419-2660 to schedule an appointment.
