The cross-country challenge for riders with motorcycles that were manufactured between 1930-1960, and will be quite the trial of speed, endurance, navigation, and knowledge. This is the first time that this event will be riding through Claremore.
“The riders will be entering Claremore from the north end of Route 66 and ride JM Davis to either Blue Starr or Will Rogers. They will make their way to the museum from there,” says Andrews. “Afterwards, they will exit the museum on Blue Starr.”
“There will be approximately 125 riders, plus the chase vehicles. Visit Claremore is hosting the group for dinner before they check in to their Claremore hotel; and on Sunday they will leave for their next stop.”
The Route 66 Cross Country Chase route begins in Springfield, Illinois and ends in California. The entire event goes from September 15th through September 20th.
Several factors are involved in the participating rider’s eligibility. Riders must be able to compete an average of over 250 miles per day over a 5 day period on their own (no support crews will be on hand during the event). They will also be required to successfully navigate the 2400-plus mile route without getting lost or getting off course in a timely fashion.
Additionally, riders will be given a test made up of 100 questions that require knowledge of the aspects of the Route 66 and American Motorcycling history, which will count towards the individual rider’s final score.
Vintage motorcycles and historic Route 66 make September 17th a notable day in Claremore, and Oklahoma!
